My Boobs Hurt Soooo Bad...
Posted: 11-07-06 22:26pm

My milk came in today and it's so much more painful than I thought it would be. I kind of thought nothing would happen since up until earlier today i'd had no tenderness or swelling or leakage at all, now I feel sheepish. They're swollen and hard and so painful. Anyone know how long it should take for them to dry up? I think my doctor said 2 days but I don't remember and that seems awfully quick.

For me it took quite a while. It had to have been at least 2 weeks...My aunt always told me to put a cold cabbage leaf inside your bra with a hole cut for the nipple. I think it is supposed to help dry them up and probably help with the pain. But make sure you wear a breast pad also, unless you want to leak all over.

Im guessing your not breast feeding... But you could also try putting a warm cloth on them, might help

Ice packs help milk dry up. There are pills that can make your milk dry up, but I don't know if anyone gives those anymore.

Also don't take hot showers. Warm water stimulates milk production. Sorry you're hurting.

Mine hurt really bad too and took them about a 3 days to stop hurting (not sure if they dried up or not though) but I still leaked milk after that.

Cold makes your milk dry up and the heat makes you boobies go wild and squirt all over the place.

When I took a bath I felt like a milk producing ho, they leak everywhere. Nastehh. Shocked

do not do warm anything!!!!!!!!!!! Warm increases milk supply. Hence you leak like crazy in the hot shower!!
You need ice packs.

Did the nurses get pushy and try to convince you to do it while you were in the hospital? I know the nurses here do that to girls who don't want to breast feed.

I tried to breastfeed the whole time I was in the hopital, mostly because of the nurses. I was horribly frustrated and so was ethan...I probably would have stopped after the first day.

No no no no nothing warm....Your in for a big surprise if you use something warm.....Cold cabbage leaves work wonders. When I was in the hospital for 10 days after I delivered my first baby my milk came in and I was in awful pain. One of the nurses brought in some cabbage and the nurses would bring it in for me. It was great....By the end of the 10 days I was mostly dried up.

Seriously warmth is the enemy, they'll rise up like dough balls and explode all over the place. They actually squirt like squirt guns. It shocked the heck out of me the first time it happened. Shocked I don't know how long it takes to dry up because I stopped breastfeeding chu at around 1 month old, now four months later sometimes I still get leakage.

Thanks everyone. I can't get over how gigantic my boobs are right now and I feel like they weigh about 25 pounds each. I've just been using an icepack and i'm on painkillers for my c-section anyway so it's not too bad. It's just when I hold finn a certain way and he's pressed against me or sometimes i'll accidentally hit my arm against them. I had a little leakage when I woke up today but they sent me home with nursing pads so it's ok.

I chose not to breastfeed, i'm just not comfortable with it. I know "breast is best" but it wasn't for me. I don't need a lecture, please. The nurses didn't give me a problem at all, they asked when I was checking in so it was in my chart that I was bottle feeding. We kept him in our room for most of our stay and his bassinet had drawers underneath that they kept stocked with bottles, then when we checked out they sent us home with a ton of free formula. We just got home from our first pediatrician appointment where they sent us home with even more formula. We won't have to buy any for like a month!

At least .Nick can help with feedings! I have to be awake *every time* .Aly is hungry. It's not like .Aaron can nurse her. Rolling Eyes

and you won't have to worry about wearing nursing bras and special tops when you go out of the house. Every time we get ready to go somewhere, I have to make sure that my top isn't too restricting so I can pop a boob out when she gets hungry.

And you won't have to worry about your milk production when you leave him with someone either. When we're gone longer than an hour or two from .Aly, I worry about whether I should take a pump with me to keep my production up. Every feeding you miss affects your supply! It's a real job.

Finn will be just fine on formula. Good for you for sticking by your guns!
