Vomitting related to stress and anxiety? Posted: 11-08-06 10:39am
When I get stressed or something is on my
mind for a period of time it makes me
vomit. When I lived with my ex and our
relationship was very stressfull and
worriful for me, I used to vomit stomach
acid almost every morning. Then after we
broke up, it stopped for a while. It has
been almost three months and yesterday I
found out that he may be dating someone
new. After hearing this I vomited. Then
this morning when I woke up, i vomited
again. It seems to be linked to him,
since before our relationship this happend
very rarely. But with him it lasted nearly
10 mos. I dont know if I should seek
proffessional help or will this pass... Is
this normal body behavior for when the
mind is uneasy?
Vomiting is a neuro-vegetative reflex
reaction. Many anxious and stressful
conditions (neurosis) are typically
followed by neuro-vegetative reactions
(tachycardia, sweating, vomiting,
diarrhea, urinary or fecal incontinention,
producing tears…). This is because the
control center of all vegetative reactions
is placed in the hypothalamus and the
hypothalamus is also part of the limbic
system. In turn, the limbic system is
considered to be the center of the
psycho-emotional life. You can see your
primary health provider to exclude a
possible stomach disorder (gastritis,
peptic ulcer, hiatus hernia) before
diagnosing stress and emotional suffering
for this vomiting.
