Wanted : Your Abortion Stories Posted: 11-08-06 19:51pm
Hi. I wish to give my support to everyone
here who has gone through an abortion
whatever the circumstances, and I hope you
came through it ok.
I know that this is a sensitive issue, but
I wanted to ask anyone who is willing to
send me (or post) their abortion story. I
am writing a book about women's abortion
experiences. I am interested in hearing
both from women who regret their abortions
and from women who feel it was the right
decision, from pro-life and pro-choice
women, and those in between. I am
particularly interested in the counseling
you recieved. Was it helpful, did you
wish for more information, did it impact
your decision, or had you already decided
to have the abortion when you went to the
clinic? Would you support or oppose laws
that would require abortion clinics to
give information on fetal development,
post-abortion issues, and alternatives?
And any other information about your
experience you would like to give.
If I publish your story, it will be kept
completely anonymous.

Oblina,
i had a late term (20 wks) abortion when I
was 15 in 1973. Abortion had just been
legalized a few months earlier in the us.
I think my home state had 12 weeks as the
limit. (i had a second abortion in 1980
on bc)
the only state that did late term
abortions was new york at that time. So
my first airplane ride was to new york for
my abortion.
I remember everything as vividly as if it
was yesterday.
Hopefully women/girls are treated more
sensitively today than then.
Besides my parents, I only told about 5
people about my first abortion and have
told no one in about 25-30 yrs. Not even
my obgyns. I have never told anyone
about my second abortion.
I just found this forum and am so happy to
finally be able to discuss this and maybe
be of help to others.
Are you interested in my story even though
it is so old? If so, let me know and I
will provide it to you. I recall now how
sad and somewhat horrific I was treated
and how things were handled. It may
provide some insight about the early days
of legalized abortion esp late term. I
had never thought about it before but I
suppose there weren't many of us that have
had late term abortions.
It will definitely bring up some agonizng
memories for me that I don't think about
much anymore so - just let me know if you
think it is pertinent. I never had
counseling.

Alphamom I was born in 1973 and I would be
interested to know how abortions were
performed at that time. Please share
your story with us.

Night angel
you appear to be very intelligent. I see
you work in microbiology and are very
active on this forum with strong opinions
so I suspect you very well know the answer
to your question and are instead setting
me up. Perhaps not and if so, a thousand
apologies. I think you must know that
abortion procedures like most things in
medicine and life in general have changed
and improved with time and knowledge.
Perhaps you would be better served and
could obtain actual facts if you google
what you want to know. I can only speak
to my experience and not procedures during
that period.
I came to this forum with the hope that I
could provide some help and insight based
on my experience to others and not sit in
judgment of anyone or try to force my
beliefs onto them.
Perhaps I need to look elsewhere.

you do have to be cautious of the
pro-lifers on here because some of them
will try to use every opportunitty to make
women feel guilty. If you want a truly
supportive environment, check out the
pro-choice forum on the bottom of the
forums page.

Alphamom my intentions were definetly not
to judge you or set you up for nothing. I
was just truly curious to read how it was
back in those days. I am pro-life but i'm
a person interested in history you see.
But that's okay if you don't feel like to
share. I understand.

i'd assume 16, since 4 months times 4
weeks in a month is 16...
I say assume because for all I know,
there's some extra gestation-period thingy
in there... But i'm 90% sure 4 months is
16 weeks.

Eri
i know that may have sounded like a dumb
question but I thought I saw on this
thread or another where someone - I
thought it was you(guess I was wrong)
referenced 5 months for 16 wks. I must
have been wrong.
I just recall when I was pregnant, I
learned from my doctor that pregnancy is
actually 10 months (40 weeks) instead of 9
somehow the ciounting is convulted so....

a pregnancy is considered full term from
anwhere between 36-40 weeks
