Post-pardum menstrual delay: pregnancy, menopause, or cyst? Posted: 11-09-06 10:38am
I am 43, I had a healthy baby girl April
20, 2006. I am breastfeeding her. I have
had my period since from June 2006 through
October. However, I am late this month.
I am not using birth control. My period
should be starting the 6,7, or 8 but so
far, I have had no signs. I usually spot
before and there is nothing. I have had
twinges every once in a while. I am
wondering if my period is late. Or
possibly I am going through a menopausal
issue. Or I am pregnant. My baby is
eating solids since about 5 September
18th. I am working since July 17.
Nothing major has changed in my life. I
am pumping at work and using fenugreek.
So any opinions on this subject would be
helpful. Thank you.

It is very easy to validate a pregnancy
with a home pregnancy test. If it the
test is positive, you can confirm a
pregnancy with a blood test and ultrasound
at your gynecologist's office. It the
test is negative, you are probably not
pregnant. It is early to confirm that you
are experiencing menopause, or not.
Menopause is considered if you don’t
have a menstrual period for more than a
year. It is possible also that you are
experiencing functional ovarian cyst, a
very common possibility. You'll need
ultrasound examination to check if you
have such a cyst ,or not. Therefore, it
seems best that you schedule a visit with
your gynecologist. for the necessary
diagnostics.
