I know the basics about herpes but
realistically how likely is it to have it
for over 6 years and never have any
symptoms?
Typically the incubation is 21-90 days
then you get a first outbreak.
I know it can be spread without sexual
contact - but realistically how likely?
I know 100% that my partner has not
cheated. I know I have not cheated.
I have not slept with another person for
over 6 years, he has not slept with
another person for over 15 years.
Unfortunately I was a bit promiscuous
prior to my current partner.
Neither of us has ever had an outbreak of
herpes. Ever.
My partner now has a herpes outbreak.
How likely is it that I picked up the
infection 6 or more years ago and have
never had an outbreak of herpes, yet have
infected my partner at some point and
surely if that were the case he would have
had an outbreak by now. We have had
unprotected sex, the whole time we have
been together.

Ok to answer your question of how likely
it is... It's not at all likely.
But... What may have happened is that one
of you had a cold sore (which is a form of
herpes) and touched that then touched your
genitals and spread it. I know that's
hard to believe but just look it up,
you'll see that it is much more likely
than genital herpes lying dormant for 6
years.

Well my friend has just a herpie virus and
he is tested positive for herpies but has
never had an out break and hasnt passed
the virus to his doctor....But there is a
chance that he could have an out break at
any given moment,....So maybe you just had
the virus for a while and it was just time
for and outbreak

neither of us has ever had a cold sore -
ever.
I checked with our parents and they've
never had cold sores either. We just have
never been exposed to the virus at all.
I don't doubt my partner and have no
suspicions - I know explicitly that he has
not slept with anyone else.
I still have not had any outbreak and his
cleared up within a few days.
All the tests from the gu clinic have come
back negative for everything. They did a
whole range of tests and herpes did not
show up, althought the doctor said it
definately "looked" like herpes - so now
he is confused too.

really? The two doctors we saw at the gu
clinic said that unless you test for
herpes within the first 48 hours of an
outbreak it won't show up.
(we were there less than 24 hours after it
first showed up).
It's just odd because all the tests came
back clear and neither of us has ever been
exposed to the virus - never had a cold
sore or anything

well maybe it really just isn't herpes.
Doctor's misdiagnose stuff all the time.
Surely if all tests came up as negative it
couldn't be, right?
I cant think in my head what a herpes
breakout looks like and I dont relish the
thought of lookin it up, but there's a
whole host of infections or skin
conditions it could look a bit like it,
right?
I mean years ago I managed to catch
ringworm off my cat, for example. I
suppose anythin's possible, think outside
the box lol! And maybe head to the
doctor's again for a better diagnosis, or
do what I suggested and post a doctor
question on here.
I wouldnt completely discount what maia
said about the possibility of it being
passed on by contact with a cold sore in
some form or another. Have a really
really hard think!
Have you been tested too and its all
negative?
