Where's the emoticon of the smiley barfing? All I can smell when I hold finn is his belly button. I'm so grossed out by it!

That's it, I just needed to share.

Yeah, it hasn't fallen off yet but it's close. It just stinks really badly, which i've read is completely normal.

I almost think it'd be weird if it didn't smell, ya know? Like, oh no big deal, it's not a dead piece of umbilical cord or anything, of course it's not going to smell bad! Lmao. How long does it take for the little raisins to fall off?

From what i've read it takes 8-15 days, if it's longer than 3 weeks call the pediatrician. We're on day 8 now and it just started smelling today (i just read that it's from the good bacteria breaking down the stump), i'm expecting it to fall off within the next couple days, it's only held on at the bottom ridge. It's really gross though, where's that delicious new baby smell?

Eeeek!! I mean, I could see how it could stink if it got wet...But .Oni's didn't have a smell. I kept it actaully. It's in a little baggie wrapped up in tissues.

I don't want to throw away the *1* thing that had us as one!!

Call me weird....

Oni's was dangling off after about 10 days, so I just took it off. It was literally hanging by nothing!!

.That's a really beautiful way of looking at it, .Sarah.
I might steal that idea once mine is born.

Aly's didn't stink either. I bathed her with washcloths until it fell off, so it never got wet.

I didn't keep it, though. I had always planned to, but... It grossed me out. Neutral

Not all babies have an odor. I've researched it because I was concerned at first but it seems that a lot of stumps that don't get swabbed with alcohol develop an odor. An odor can also be a sign of infection but stump infections are rare and aside from the smell it's healing nicely. I'm going to give it a few days to fall off (it's so close!) and once it falls off the smell should go away, if not i'll call the doctor.

I've heard of people saving the stump, and sarah, while what you said was beautiful, I don't think I could save it. I'm so grossed out by it!

You might call the dr on call and see if it is supposed to have an odor, I have known that some do and others do not and see what he/she recommends cleaning it with, my guess would be alchohol because of the drying effect but doesn't it burn him plus you may have a real sensitive stomach but you don't want an infection ther either or have your hubby talk to one of the nurses about it, just to relieve your mind. When do you see the dr again?
