Rememberance Day.
Posted: 11-11-06 16:59pm

This is for all the .Canadian girls here. I just wanted to give a shout-out because it's .Rememberance .Day. I don't personally know anyone who fought in the war, but .Remberance .Day really affects me. So I thought i'd put this up just to remind all the .Canadians (michelle, tanya, sarah, kimmie, etc.), and the .Americans too, I guess. My new avatar is symbolic, obviously.

.Happy .Rememberance .Day, ladies!

in flanders fields
by: .Lieutenant .Colonel .John .Mc.Crae, md (1872-1918)
canadian army

.In .Flanders .Fields the poppies blow
between the crosses row on row,
that mark our place; and in the sky
the larks, still bravely singing, fly
scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
loved and were loved, and now we lie
in flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
to you from failing hands we throw
the torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
we shall not sleep, though poppies grow
in flanders fields.

my grandfather fought for our freedom!

Thanks .Matt Wink

My grandfather died not too long after the war, he died of cancer but I am still thankful that we won or we would have no rights!

I know this poem off by heart, it's my fave poem (sorry i'm not a canadian but we remember this day too over here Wink)

the soldier

if I should die, think only this of me;
that there's some corner of a foreign field
that is for ever england. There shall be
in that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
a dust whom england bore, shaped, made aware,
gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
a body of england's breathing english air,
washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
a pulse in the eternal mind, no less
gives somewhere back the thoughts by england given;
her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
and laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
in hearts at peace, under an english heaven.

I do feel quite close to rememberance day as my great grandfather was in the second world war and still has his uniform, medals, letters etc. Although I do have to say the first and second world war are the only wars I agree with, they happened for progression, it just seems that now when a country has a problem it's like oh I know lets have a war. Some people over here have done only what I can call sick , they have sprayed the natzi symbol over war memorials, I personally don't know how anyone could do that, those people died for you to have rights now and thats how them dying at 16 are repaid. I would love to see them go to war now and see how they survive

Gah, sorry, .Kia, uk girls too. Smile

i love that poem, .Mich. At our rememberance day celebration at school, I sang 'alleluia' (an elton john song; it was also in shrek), and I was trying not to get all choked up!
