Gallbaldder Symptoms With "normal" Hida Scan Posted: 01-30-04 20:05pm
I have gallbladder syptoms (pain urq that
radiates into my back) that has lasted for
over 3 months and is now present on a
daily basis for about a month. Today, I
had a hida scan. It took 1 1/2 hours for
my gallbladder to empty before they
ejected the cck. When the cck was
injected, I had terrible pain all over my
abdomen, kidneys, stomach, and back. The
hida scan came back "normal"
any thoughts?

I'm an 18 year old girl and i've been
having all the symptoms of a gallbladder
problem for about 3 to 4 months now. I
have had several tests ran and they can't
find anything either, however I have no
had a hida scan done yet. I am going to
a specialist later this week, you might
try also.

Hi,
my name is cindy . Iam replying
because I had gallbladder surgery 8 months
ago.Hope I can help. I had an endoscopy
where they stick a tube down your throat
they can tell wether or not you have
gallstones or what the problem might be.
I just happened to have gallstones so the
only option was surgery. If I can help with
any further infomation
just let me know.
Sincerely,cindy

answer:
I went thru the same thing for several
months. Have you had complete blood work.
I had all the same symptoms went threw
all the test to find out I had h-pylori
bacteria. It will show up in lab work.
H-pylori bacteria is a bacteria that lives
in your stomach and causes painful ulcers.

I am a nuclear medicine technologist
(one who performs the hida scan) it was
once thought that when a patient
experiences pain during cck injection, it
is another indication of gallbladder
disease. This is not the case. Pain
during cck injection is simply a side
affect from the cck, which is causing
excessive contractions of the smooth
muscles in your abdomen. This includes
the gallbladder, stomach, urinary bladder,
and intestines. I would say that 40% of
my patients experience some degree of
cramping, usually very mild. Severe
cramping only occurs in maybe 5% of all my
patients. Vomiting occurs in 1% of my
patients. Unfortunately, the package
insert for the drug cck calls for an
injection over 1 to 3 minutes. Most
experts recommend injecting the drug over
a period of at least ten minutes. This
will prevent most cases of severe
cramping. Some people will cramp up
regardless, probably due to underlying
causes. Unfortunately it is not possible
to give pain medication, as it will affect
the way the gallbladder contacts.

Frustrated With Testing Posted: 02-07-05 08:56am
I have been experiencing the exact same
symptoms with the same results- my pain
is so intense that it feels like the wind
is knocked out of me. It feels almost
like having contractions in my urq
combined with nausea- I have been dealing
with this since may of 04 and no answers.
I have been dealing with pain since may of
2004- in june I had my appendix removed
and thought that the nausea and pain would
end. Unfortunately the pain got and
continues to get worse. I too have
severe pain in my urq. I am extremely
frustrated and don't know what to do next-
I have had the tube down my throat, ultra
sound and the hida scan. Is this all in
my head??? Additionally I have lost alot
of weight-don't know where to turn.

Hida And Vomit Posted: 03-11-05 14:05pm
I had a hida scan and the chemicals they
injected for the second part of the test
made me vomit. Tight away I felt sick
and about 10 min after the test was over
this yellow bile came up and out. It took
over 8 hours for me to be able to drink a
little water with out it coming back out.
No cramps or pain from the test, but
after.
Has anyone else experiened this? Did any
health care provider explain why it would
happen or what it may mean. I had a
ultrasound and no stones. I am a
vegetarian at my idea bmi no illness no
meds.

I have nausea, diarrhea, pressure feeling
in the epigastric and ruq, its been going
on for awhile. I had an ultrasound for
stones, it was normal, had a ivp it was
normal. I have all the symptoms of
h-pylori so i'm wondering if this might be
it. It also goes along with ibs in which
I have. I'm tired of eating, because it
gives me diarrhea or make me feel like I
need to vomit, but I eat cause i'm
starving. Could be a peptic ulcer?
Sound familar to anyone?

H. Pylori And Gall Bladder Symptoms Posted: 05-24-05 20:39pm
I have been going through chronic nausea
since dec. 2004. My stomach is almost
always queasy. I sometimes wake up in
the middle of the night with severe
nausea, no vomiting. I had a hida scan
and it was borderline abnormal. Then I
had an upper endoscopy and the doc took
biopsies. I have h. Pylori. I am on
prevpack (anibiotic therapy w/ prevacid)
for 14 days. I still feel the same, but
it's only been 3 days so far. I am
worried about my hida scan results though.
Has anyone else had any similar
experiences?

I was nauseated too... Along with lots of
other symptoms... My hida scan was also
borderline.. 39%.. Surgeon said with
all my symptoms but no stones he still
thought it was gb... He was right! 11
weeks post op today and no more nausea or
pain... I had an endoscopy before the gb
removed and it was negative for
hpylori..
Good luck, hope you get some answers!

Co-worker Posted: 07-20-05 13:28pm
My co-worker is 22. She does not have
health insurance. She has been
complaining of back pain and discharge as
well as pain while urinating. The
symptoms pointed to a urinary tract
infection or kidney infection. However
she recieved medication and the symptoms
persisted. After blood test and 4 doctor
visits telling her they saw nothing, and
refusing to look further even after she
called back with persistent pain. The
pain during urination ended, but the back
pain spread to her legs and her rib cage
area. She began vomiting and then went
to the emergency room. Again they denied
her an x-ray, but gave her more
antibiotics for a bacterial infection.
She is still in pain, and going again to
the doctor friday. As of now she has
intense pain in her lower back and it
spreads to her right front abdomen. She
still has discharge, and is very tired.
She can lay on her stomach, back or left
side without intense surges of pain.
There has been concern on whether this
might be some sort of gallbladder
infection or something with her appendix.
But she has had several blood tests and
urine analysis. Does anyone have any
idea what might be going on, and wouldn't
it show in her blood tests or urine
analysis? Any information would be very
helpful.
