I have been through many of the tests
talked about in these posts. The only
thing is I have not had any pain. I am
just having severe episodes of nausea and
diarrhea. Sometimes when the episodes are
really intense I vomit. It feels like I
have food poisoning. However, I don't
think I would be so unlucky to have it
this many times in a 7 month period. I
have lost some weight mainly because of
the nausea. Is it possible to have
gallbladder issues without the pain? I am
very frustrated as it seems many of you
are. I just want to feel better. Thank.

Small Bile Duct Opening Causing Gall Bladder Pains Posted: 06-20-07 19:00pm
I had 6 attacks. They could never find
anything in the bloodwork, ultrasounds,
xrays, ulcers treatments, or hida scan.
Finally after 4 years i had severe pain
everytime I tried to eat. The pain was
exactly an hour after I ate and the only
"cure" was morphine. They gave me a scope
down my stomach (not gastral) and found
the opening from my bile duct to intestine
was extremely small. They cut the hole
bigger with the scope and have been good
ever since. The bile was just backing up,
no stones. In the past I would have one
attack then for a year be good so they
could never find anything. My liver
enzymes did go up this last time things
plugged up. Note: when you go to the
emergency room ALWAYS say you've have
rolaids first and NEVER say that you've
had any kind of alcohol in the last year
cause they'll dismiss your pain!!! Plus
if its your gall bladder you'll be in so
much pain don't hesitate to lay on the
floor of the waiting room to get quicker
care. Ask for a "pink lady" as well to
help numb the pain before they get the iv
going.
Normal Tests.... Excrutiating Pain Posted: 08-19-07 10:30am
I have been in the hospital since
Wednesday. I have had HIDA scan, CT scan,
upper endoscopy, and ultrasound. All came
back normal. I am supposed to have another
HIDA scan on Tuesday that is supposed to
see not just if the gallbladder is
working, but that is working properly. I
have so much pain in my right side behind
my rib cage that I am staying at a friends
house doped up on pain meds all weekend. I
don't like pain meds, but it is the only
thing that takes the edge off. I SWEAR it
is my gallbladder, but nothing is coming
back. I am reading on this forum about
people suffering for 2-6 years with this
and I refuse to do that. I have been
hurting for 6 months and that is long
enough for me. Is there anything that I
can do, or ask or another test out there
that is more accurate? I am a teacher and
it is very difficult to stand in front of
class and teach with this pain.
I am also looking into Irritable Bowel
Syndrome (which I don't think it is
because my pain is constant and I wake up
at night) and diverticulitis but my pain
is not in the colon. I have no idea what
it is. I know I am not crazy. HELP please

How are your liver function tests? (my
tests were ok until the last attack so
its not 100% either)
Are they willing to try an ercp? It can
enlarge or unplug the bile duct, your gall
bladder might be working fine but it hurts
trying to squeeze the bile through. For me
this didn't show up on any tests (same as
yours) only the ercp caught it.
For me it hurt exactly an hour after
eating anything. Thats when the gall
bladder sees the food go by. The only
thing that helped me was morphine.
If they put on IV and the pain goes away
that at least tells you its digestive.
It also took 3 doctors to find out the
problem, I had to talk to 3 surgeons and
have them working together. You can only
get help by getting a relative to help you
out by bugging them nonstop. I stayed in
the hospital for two weeks!! but at least
now its solved.
Does your family have a history of gall
bladder attacks?
My advice would be go back to the
hospital, put yourself on IV, take the
morphine and REFUSE to leave until its
solved. The key is to get into the system
and stay there!!! Don't leave the
hospital. Its extremly boring in there but
you have to put yourself first.
Put your foot down and insist on morphine,
sometimes they make you stay in pain as a
diagnostic, screw that its not needed get
the morphine! Let them know how bad it
really is.

I think that is what I had... not the
upper edoscopy. The sad part is, I don't
have enough leave from work to sit in the
hospital. I am hoping to find an answer on
Tuesday. If not, I am calling my doctor
and getting rowdy. It sucks. I wish I had
gallstones cause that would make life a
lot easier to diagnose gallbladder
disease. I have this thing pegged with
symptoms but I have to go through the
hoops I guess.

Check with your human resources person,
hopefully you have short term disability
insurance. The "company" usually has its
own insurance policy that pays out an
employee. Hopefully you have it. The sick
leave if taken together can help you get
through the one week? waiting period.
With me they did an upper scope first
looking for ulcers but that doesn't see
the gall bladder. Its cheaper for them to
do so they usually start with that.
My abdomen just below the right side rib
cage always ached for about 8 months
before things got really bad. It was hard
to pin point, it was like it was being
caused by sleeping on your side all the
time or where the seat belt would be.
Turned out to be my gall bladder. I didn't
have any stones but it hurt just the
same.
I can't say you have the same problem
cause i'm not a doctor but keep asking
them questions and bugging them. If you
ignore it you'll miss more work in the
long run

All Negative Tests Posted: 08-21-07 15:34pm
Hi, I'm an 18 year old female who has been
suffering from pain in my upper right hand
quadrant for the past six months. I've had
about every type of test possible (HIDA,
Ultra sounds, CT scans and Endoscopy) and
all of my test have turned up positive.
Even my blood work is all normal. I'm at
my wits end, and I was wondering if anyone
had any ideas for me?

Hida Scan With Diarrhea? Posted: 10-19-07 13:40pm
I had my Hida Scan today. Within 30
minutes of getting home I began cramping
and having diarrahea. It is a very
strange orange color. I know this is
gross but did anyone else experience
this?
Also, my symptoms are nausea, belly pain,
and severe indigestion/belching. Did
anyone else experience this with
gallbladder disease?????
I had a CT and US with no stones found. I
had endoscopy and no stomach
ulcers/problems found. I had the HIDA
today and won't get my results till Monday
afternoon.

No More Tests Please Posted: 10-22-07 19:13pm
I am in the same situation as most on this
topic. Had CT, MRI, Ultrasound, lab work
up and down and round and round all coming
back normal. I had an endoscopy=normal.
They jsut did the Hida scan and it showed
12%! I experienced severe nausea,
sweatingbut no cramping during the test
and nasty diarrahea few hours later. So
finally something but the first thing they
want to do is cut me open...and they don't
even think i have stones.
This had been going on a year for me.
About 1 year to the date of my first ER
visit, I visited the ER again. Liver
enzymes were through roof last year and
this time not as bad, but up there. My
pain also radiates up and across the back
even into the right shoulder.
However they did diagnosis me with chronic
fatigue/fibromyalgia. I could live with
the fatigue and joint/muscle pains that
these produce, but this intense urq thing
has got to end.
I am a teacher ...it is next to impossible
to stand and teach. I didn't find relief
sitting either. Nothing really helps the
pain except meds. And a classroom of 9th
graders and a teacher w a head full of
meds is no good.
Thanks for the internet I see I am not the
only one out there with same complaints
and no straight answers from the medical
professionals.
Has anyone had the ERCP done? Did they
find stones in the ducts? Were they able
to remove? And most importantly, did it
fix/correct/stop the urq pain? How long
and good was the recovery process? And if
it did correct the pain, were the effects
permanent?
I have been dealing with
pain since may of 2004- in june I had my
appendix removed and thought that the
nausea and pain would end. Unfortunately
the pain got and continues to get worse.
I too have severe pain in my urq. I am
extremely frustrated and don't know what
to do next- I have had the tube down my
throat, ultra sound and the hida scan.
Is this all in my head??? Additionally I
have lost alot of weight-don't know where
to turn.
I too am scheduled, with a little
apprehension, after reading reports of
pain during the test. But, when I read
your situation, it reminded me of my
mother about 5 years ago...she was
hospitalized with severe pain, they ran
every scan, test, cat, etc on
her....Nothing....they released her and
she still was suffering....we finally
found a doctor that admitted for a
laproscopic for exploratory....Thank
God....she was full of adhesions, that do
not show up on x-rays, scans, etc.
....they were so badly wrapped around her
intestines and even some of her
organs.....Thank God for the doctor that
ordered this outpatient surgery for
her.....it saved her life !!!!

Can anyone tell me the
syptoms of gall bladder
disease
I was recently diagnosed through ultra
should to have gallstones, the symtoms of
gallbladder disease (which are gallstones
or any form of inflamation or
non-functioning gallbladder) are generally
all or some of as follows:
*steady, severe pain in the upper abdomen
that increases rapidly and lasts from 30
minutes to several hours
*pain in the back between the shoulder
blades
*pain under the right shoulder
*nausea or vomiting
*abdominal bloating
*recurring intolerance of fatty foods
*belching
*gas
*indigestion
I have all of the above and the
gallbladder attacks I have are very
painful. I am on a very strict low-fat
high fiber diet.
I am currently on a surgical waiting list
of have my gb removed.
Thanks

Severve Pain During Hida Scan Posted: 01-08-08 23:07pm
So i've read all the forums and im still
just lost. Im a 22 yr old female. Im
active duty military fire fighter. Im
incredibly fit, but I feel like Im dying.
I have all the symptoms that everyone has
listed here. Ive had the run around from
every doctor in town. Just today I finally
had a HIDA scan done. They havent let me
know the results. But I have never
experienced such pain in my stomach like
that in my life. I almost threw up but
held it back. 20 minutes later the same
pain hit again. I was in tears it was so
horrible. Im a tough chick, pain 'aint no
thang' for a girl like me. But this
unknown medical crap has given me anxiety
attacks and stress you cant believe. Ive
been so weak from pain all the time. My
station captain has taken me off our 24
hour shift and Im stuck with the injured
repainting the stations. oh what a joy. I
HATE IT! Why was this cck injection so
ungodly painful? please help?

same symptoms Posted: 01-22-08 09:44am
My 15 year old was taken to ER for severe
pain under his right rib cage. They said
he had pleurisy. We then took him to our
family doctor for a follow up visit. He
thinks its his gall bladder. So far he
has had an ultrasound which showed no
stones. Friday he has a hida scan
scheduled. He gets nausea after eating
and vomits sometimes. He also gets the
belching. He was diagnosed with acid
reflux about 2 years ago but the medicine
did not help the nausea. He has had the
rib pain for about 4 months or longer.
But the pain then was really mild. I hope
the hida scan shows something. I hate
seeing my son like this. Right now he
takes tylenol with codeine and 400 mg of
motrin for the pain. He is also on a low
fat diet, but being a teenager he has a
hard time finding foods he likes. It does
seem to help a little eating the low fat
foods. He hasnt had to take as much
tylenol as when we first went to the ER.
I hope the doctors find out whats wrong
with each and everyone of you.

Re: Gallbaldder Symptoms With "normal" Hida Scan Posted: 03-17-08 00:08am
I have a question. I have had pain for
four years following surgery for
endometreosis and a year later I had a
hysterectomy. It started with back pain
and through the years I started having
pain on the right side of my body. Now
the pain starts in the center of my chest
radiates to my back, right shoulder,
stomach and right side above my hip.
Could this be due to changes in hormones?
I am waiting on results from my HIDA Scan.
The technician did not ask me many
questions and when I asked he said
everything looked ok but the report will
have to be read. In my case I am hoping
that it is my gallbladder so I could have
it removed and I could return to a pain
free life. I have had MRI's on my back,
ultrasound of abdomen and scope and all
were ok. Please let me know any in-put.
Thanks

CCK HIDA and ENHANCED CTSCAN Posted: 04-04-08 14:53pm
Hello everyone -
I have suffered with gall bladder pain
(symptoms) since my daughter was born 32
years ago... yes, 32 years ago! 6 months
after she was born I was told I had gall
bladder disease. I have "bouts" wit the
pain from time to time and then they go
away as quickly as they came. Since last
October I have had them constantly. Tube
down the throat, ultrasound, colonoscopy,
all negative. Which I felt was a good
sign. But the pain continued. Had a
severe attack 3-10 which put me in the ER
for a day. all tests normal! go figure!
So I had a CT Scan, Enhanced CT Scan, Hida
and CCK all between yesterday and today.
CCK was "wicked", sorry but it was.
Knocked me for a loop... could not even go
to work afterwards.
How much you want to bet that my DR calls
me early next week to tell me these tests
are normal too! I FEEL HORRIBLE ALL THE
TIME. It has already taken its toll on my
physically and now emotionally. I did not
loose weight, I gained!
