Sorry this isnt on subject...But I need
help...
Does anyone own one of those tall lamps,
in the shape of a lava lamp but is filled
with water? And when u plug it in, theres
a thing at the bottom which makes lots of
bubbles and lights up different colours,
and u can put fake fish in it. I bought
one today only it was from a dodgy shop
and theres no instructions, I cant find
any info about it on the net, just
pictures of it.
If u have one, I need to know how long can
you keep it plugged in for safely? So it
wont over heat or can it stay on however
long and its fine? The box says fill it
with distilled water, well um is tap water
ok? The writing on the box is all wrong
like an asian guy was trying to write
english and got the words mixed up, the
box wasnt even closed properly...Ugh
should I just take it back? Ive bought it
to go in lucas' bedroom at night when I
start putting him in there, so theres
always a low constant noise. (from the
bubbles) any thoughts plzzz!!?

Take it back and tell him you don't know
how to work it. There should always be
clear instructions on the box. If I were
you I would just get your money back as I
had something similar and it used
loads of electricity!
Plus the light and/or noise might irritate
lucas after a while. I had fish in
layla's room and she used to stand up in
her cot to look at them

Well I cant get my money back, he said I
can exchange it for something else if its
not what I thought it would be.
The reason I got it was so there would be
a low constant noise in lucas' room,
because our neighbours in the place above
make a lot of noise at night and it wakes
him up...They are seriously deranged,
anyway so thats why I wanted something
with bubbles not lava...Cos the lava one
is silent.
I was hoping it wouldnt use too much
electricity...Like I was going to put it
on when I put him to bed then turn it off
when I go to bed..So it would be on
maximum 7 hours a night. Ugh damnit.

I agree with becky but if you keep it do
not use tap water,only distilled,.Tap
water has all sorts of crap in it and you
never know if it will ruin your lamp.

can you leave the noise on without the
light?
You could try it for a day and see how
much electricity it uses (if you have a
key meter)

Yeh im just worried it isnt safe now.
Like it could blow up in the night and i'd
only know if it started a fire and the
smoke alarm went off. If I try it, then I
cant take it back cos he'll know ive used
it, there will be all water marks on the
inside. Ehh I dunno

well my sister use to have something
similar to what you have and she would
leave it on sometimes in the night and it
was fine, but since thats used I don't know
how safe it is,like if it has a chort or
something.I doubt it would blow up and if
it shorted out, chances are that thats all
it will be unless you have a lot of things
around it ya know?

Yeh ive cleared all the teddies off the
chest of drawers im putting it on. Kia
said to open the plug, check the fuse is 3
or 5amp not 13, so the fuse will blow not
the lamp. What makes it blow up anyway?
Im confused now kia!
Edited -where do u buy fuses from? Like
which shop.

I have one of these lamps and just filled
it up with ordinary water from the tap and
it works fine.......... Its does make a
constant low buzzing noise ...This is the
pump which makes the bubbles and is quite
normal.... Although can be a bit
annoying........ Ours is in my daughters
bedroom and when she puts it on the
buzzing can be heard from down stairs and
becomes a sort of droning! So we dont let
her have it on for long because it
vibrates through the floorboards and is
really loud. You can if you want leave
it on as long as you like. As long as it
has a transformer type plug on it should
be perfecly safe... It is after all a
lamp and lamps are desingned to stay on
for long periods... Dont worry!

fine then. Also check the plug for like
any blackness, cause if it has black on it
that usually means that it isn't safe and
it can possibly short or shock you. I
think maybe kia was saying get a low
wattage so that if it blows it will only
be the bulb and not blow the entire
system. . I think,lol

thing has to do with the wattage, lirk the
light bulb you put in.Does it have a light
bulb in it already?

It has a bubble maker piece at the bottom
in the centre, then around that theres 14
small light bulbs, so I guess it gets
quite hot, making the water hot too?
Theres other little bolts and wirey pieces
on the bottom inbetween the buls
aswell....On the actual plug it says 13
amp then 250v..Whatever the 250 v means,
volts? I dunno, its weird theres no
on/off switch, so u have to plug it in and
take it out everytime at the socket, is
that safe? Could it give me a shock
doing that?
They always say turn appliances off before
unplugging them..

Usually on those there is a little thing
on the cord and you can turn it. . Thats
odd,i would feel weird doing that.
In the room do you have a plug that is
connected to the light switch in the room?
Like when you walk in and you flip a
switch whatever light is connected to that
switch comes on? Sorry if that was
confusing but if you know what i'm talking
bout maybe you should plug it in there so
whenever you turn the lights on/off you
don't have to keep unplugging it and all.I
sound like a freak, you probably have no
clue what kinda mess i'm talknig about!
Lol

not quite
it is condensed steam from boiled water.
If you just boil then cool the water it
still has the crap (lime scale etc in it)
so you need to catch all the steam and
cool it so it turns back to water -
because the solids can't turn to steam so
it purifies the water.
Most irons also should have distilled
water for the same reasons.
Allie.
Fuses blow (not blow up hahaha) there is a
bit of metal inside which will break if it
gets too hot and so will stop the
electricity to the item.

Thanks everyone! I went back to the store
and said about there being no
instruction/safety leaflet in the box. He
said you just fill it with regular tap
water (box says distilled water), and plug
it in like a lamp, he showed me the one
they have on at the back of the store, he
said its on for 9 hours a day and it
doesnt get hot so its ok to leave it on
all night if I want.
Im using a wall socket which does have an
on/off button so i'll just use that.
Thanks for the help sorry I was freaking
out...Lol

Another safer option for you is a fish
tank it makes what they call white noise
bubbles and a low hum plus a soothing
light when you use colored rocks on bottom
wether you use fish or not it works I
tryed it with one of my younguns. Good
luck hope it helps.
