Xena66 .You seem to know what you're
doing. I'm in the uk, i'm pretty sure
that here we are not able to buy
prescription drugs on-line. I was told
today that the psychiatrist will prescribe
for me so I don't know what the dose will
be yet. I was also told that whilst
taking the drug I will be closely
monitered by him, so be careful doing it
yourself.
Yes my hubby does know what's going on.
It is probably more obvoius to people
close to you than you realise, even when
you think you're hiding things well. Best
wishes.

Good luck detsi! I wouldn't have gone
online for the medication if (like you)
i'd had the nerve to see my doctor about
it. It's tough when you feel you have a
credible reputation to protect. I'm
involved in a lot of things and know an
awful lot of people in my community. I'm
probably considered one of the most
well-adjusted, outgoing, positive person
anyone could know! Kinda hysterical
huh?!
I'm glad your husband knows. There
should be a lot of support there for you.
I hope you find the medication as helpful
as I have. I know it's real early for me
to tell the long-term outcome, but i'm
optimisitc so far. Let me know how it
goes.

here, in portugal, we can't buy drugs
online either. If prozac cured me, i'd
buy it right now! I must admit that it's
very tempting...

Allie, about 4 different medical sites
(including the makers of prozac)
recommended 60mg per day for bulimia while
only 20 mg for anxiety. And I looked
back on this forum quite a while ago, and
someone else on here was told by their Dr.
To start on 60mg per day of prozac. So
i'm hoping it's fine. The first day I
just took 20mg to make sure I was ok with
the med. Then I went to 40mg the next
night. I switched to 50mg last night
only because I have adjusted to it well
and thought I might boost it a bit for
less chance of relapse. Still not on the
full 60mg at least. I'm usually very
sensitive to medication (cold tablets,
etc) and so I thought i'd be a zombie on
this, but i'm actually functioning just
fine. The first couple of days my
reflexes were a little slow, but that has
come back. And the first day, I was
nauseas but that went away by the 2nd too,
with only the odd churning of my stomach.
I can definately feel i'm on the
medication but it's hard to describe.
The biggest thing i've noticed on it is
i'm much more relaxed about things that
usually get me worked up, and my cravings
for food has really stopped. And for me,
that's huge becasue i'm in my house all
day long and have access to food all the
time.
Voodoo, i'm not certain it would work for
everyone. I've read a few posts on here
from people it hasn't worked on. I think
it's a combination of the timing being
right with how ready you are to quit, and
the assistance of the medication. It
definately stops the cravings and the mood
swings that also contribute to binging, so
if you're ready to quit, that can be
extrememly helpful. But for someone who
isn't ready to quit, they're going to
binge/purge regardless of the medication.
I would at least recommend that if all
else has failed (and with me, 14 yrs. Of
bulimia - all else failed), and you really
want to break the habit, it can't hurt to
try the medication. :p

Xena66 thanks for your encouragement. I
understand your reasons for buying on
line. I am very lucky to have a very nice
Dr. He made me feel totally at ease and
actually thanked me for sharing my problem
with him. I think he had been hoping that
I would eventually admit to him that I
have a problem , as the first step to
recovery is admitting it too someone else.
Best wishes.

That's great that you are getting help.
I've been on lexapro (antidepressant) for
about a month now. It seems to help my
mood and make me less anxious.
I'm only on a 10 mg tablet. I go back jan
15 to get re-evaluated to see if they want
to keep at 10 mg or go up to 20 mg.
The anti depressant has been a smart
thing. I didn't want to do it but i'm so
glad I did!

Duffanie, i'm glad to hear it's helping
you too. I was the same and didn't want
to even consider it, but now I wish i'd
taken the step ages ago. Could have made
such a difference in many things. But
never too late and I feel good about it
now! I hope it keeps working for you.

If available, your dr can give you some
samples, it used to come in liquid form
also. Anything (almost) is worth a try
especially if you feel that you are ready
but you do need some help and remember
that we are here for you to and I realize
that it is scarry and sometimes it takes
more than one try so don't get
discouraged, just like smoking, it is not
easy to quit.

Voodoo, a generic brand of prozac is much
more affordable. But definately go
through your Dr. And as suggested, maybe
you can get some samples. Going through
your Dr. Is the best way to have the
medication monitored too. I was lucky to
get it online and wihout a prescription
(and that it turned out to be what I
ordered!) but I don't recommend it to
anyone else to do it without a Dr.'s
supervision. Maybe consider it as a next
step for you and hopefully it will help.
It's day 11 for me on the prozac, and so
far I only b/p in the first couple of days
and only a couple of times. I'm really
hopeful that this will help! Good luck!

I can't ask my doctor to prescribe me..
My doctor knows my family and would tell
my mom. Then, the psychologist I was
seeing can't prescribe drugs. And it'd be
easier for me if no one knew about this..

I have struggled with and ed for about 9
years now...I dont have a problem with it
all the time, but I will be doing well,
and then bam I relapse... I have been to
the doctors, hospitals, nutritionists, in
fact I am certified for training and
nutrition with my education, but I cant
seem to take my own advice... I found
that when I start dieting and what not and
watching what I eat, I relapse the
most... And after trying everything in
the book, I am not so sure I will ever get
rid of my problem

I have been bulemic for about 10 years off
and on. I quit for a while, but I do it
every now and then. I'm really scared of
what health problems I can or already
have.
Does anyone ever have really bad throat or
neck pains? I wrote a new topic about it
but you all have been doing this as long
or longer than me. So I was just
wondering. Thank you!
