Post Mohs Surgery Scar. Why So Large???? Posted: 01-31-04 16:19pm
Hi everyone,
I had a bcc removed
from my cheek a couple of weeks ago, the
surgery was successful and the wound was
closed using 12 stiches. The removed
tissue was approximately the size of a
thumb nail but
the scar is about two and a half inches
long (running from the inside corner of my
eye to the corner of my mouth. After
looking at the scar for the first time I
was horrified would there be a
cosmetic reason for the surgeon to extend
the scar this far outside the boundaries
of the wound??
Thanks in advance

I am not sure why the scars are so large
either but I will tell you they do fade
and it should look better in about 8 mos.
I have had two mohs prcedures on my eye
brow and my scars are 5 times larger then
the actual bc that was removed. I know
the dr can not close a circle w/o creating
lines but I am still not sure why they are
so large!!

Melanoma Here! Posted: 02-06-04 18:32pm
Hi, had a small mole, size of a deer tick
come up on hte back of my left leg. I
actually thought I had a tick on my leg.
Turned out to be melanoma. Was sent to
emory for the mohs, I now have a 7 inch
scar to show the world! They have to go
downward to dig out tissue to check to see
if cancer cells may have spread, then have
to seal hte punched hole, this was how it
was explained to me. And since there was
no body fat, the skin had to stretched to
in order to cover the circle cut out.
Also have a 3 inch incision from having
lymph nodes removed.....My scar has faded
some, but it still ugly, I justremind
myself, hey, i'm still here and I still
have my leg! Hope i've helped some!
