Can't Get a Deep Breath, Keep Trying to Yawn....please Help
Posted: 11-24-06 21:54pm

Since last sunday I haven't been able to get a deep breath at all, I keep trying over and over to yawn. When I do yawn finally I feel relief for a few seconds mostly during the yawn then back to it again. I had pluerisy in august and this yawning thing happened after pluerisy on and off I have had it but not this much. I don't know what to do. The only thing different I did sunday was start taking birth control pill again, it's one month expired but my doctor said that was ok, I only take it to regulate my cycle, I can't see how this could be linked. I am desperate to know what is causing this and how to get rid of it. When I had pluerisy, that came out of nowhere, I had no illnesses or anything, no coughing or cold, just severe pain when breathing. I went and had cat scans done, went to a lung specialist, told him about the yawning but didn't get any response about that, it's almost like people think I am crazy when I tell them. I am 29, healthy, never smoked, never had asthma or allergies, I wouldn't know if I did. I don't have any other symptoms at all, just need to figure this out, please help!

Many people have the same problem. It's really quite common.

I had it myself at age 5 due to anemia. And I still get it occasionally now, which I put down to stress.

However, if i'm correct, pleurisy can cause inability to take a deep breath so I would say it is due to this.

I'm sure it will clear up eventually, but if you are worried, go back to your doc for some medical advice and reassurance Smile

Omg! I am so glad I have found someone who has done the exact same thing! The first time it happened I was early into a pregnancy and the Dr. Could only think because my uteris was tilted it was pushing everything under my lungs. It was so bad I felt like I couldnt breathe. I would set up crying because it made my nerves so bad. That was 2 yrs ago.
Well I found your question because I was looking it up because i'm doing it again. But I am having pregnancy symptoms, so if I am then that is my answer to why I do this, but if I am not , I dont know what to do either about it because it is very frustrating.

I also have the same problem. The only way for me to take a deep breath at times is by forcing myself to yawn. I noticed when im around smoke at a bar or something, i feel really horrible the next day. My sinus's irritate me and i have trouble breathing. i also find that when i get a stuffy nose i tend to have problems breathing as well, maybe its all in my head.

It could be mild asthma. I get like that too sometimes and was diagnosed asthmatic last July at 26yrs old. Confused

sitting around thew cig smoke could be what triggered it. If you still have probs taking a deep breath after a week, then see a doc.
