Eerrrmmm...I mean do you actually grow up
knowing that "hey, that's my 5th cousin!"
or was it discovered upon dating???

I don't think that 5th cousins count as
relatives. But then again just the word
cousin attached to someone makes a
relationship sound creepy. If 5th
cousins don't count then I think you
should strike that word from your memory
bank. Oh is it mother's side or
father's, that makes a difference too.

Ok what exactly is a 5th cousin? First
cousin is obviously a child of one of your
parents' siblings but 5th? I'm
confoozled!

Thanks kia!
I don't understand why it's legal to marry
your 1st cousin - that's just a bit too
close to home for my liking. I know a
lovely couple who are cousins and they
have 2 normal, happy children but I just
couldn't do it myself...

This is probably a bit simpler
this is the extreme version where it is
the father in each generation adn so they
would have the same surname.

because there have been 2 marriages
bringing different blood into the gene
pool by then.
So the fathers maybe the smith brothers -
one marries ms green and the other marries
ms jones.
It's quite safe lol

well, unless both got the recessive
something or other gene and pass it along.
Heck, look at those royals! They are
just scraping the bottom of the gene pool
there. < / teasing>

It's a little creepy just from the cousin
angle, but they are really not that
closely related. In fact, more of us are
probably related that way than we think.
Ewwww!

Mmm just imagine if it was the mother side
each time - you had six name changes on
each side before you got to your common
relative.

If they want to that is fine after all who
am I to judge but it is not my cup of tea,
I dated my cousin without knowing but once
I found out that was it and if they were
to get pregnant their is always a chance
in any pregnancy of something happening.
Isn't their quite an age difference, not
that age difference means that much to
some. We do not always know the persons
last name until later and sometimes it is
a very common name and some do not ask
questions, different strokes for different
folks. I know of someone that married
into her family and their is something
wrong with four out of five of her kids
including herself. I wish them luck.
You might be right .Janis.

I just asked the question cause I would
not ever have married my cousins. It was
my husband and his ex-wife they found out
while dating and still got married and had
a child. She called me the other day and
told me hey you know me and daniel are 5th
cousins. If I say something about it he
tells me to drop it lol

Why does it matter if it's on the father's
side? What's the difference?
