Was wondering who here has the oldest hip replacement and the youngest to have one installed. I had a hip replacement at the age of 17, 47 now.

Whoa! A hip replacement at 17? Were you in an accident or something? How has your life been from 17 to 47 - in terms of your hip? Were you able to be active and lead a normal life? Would love to hear your story?

My surgery was done by a doctor working out of seton hospitol in austin, texas. It took a grouling 8 hrs to complete. It had added 20 years of maturity to my life. I was in traction for two weeks prior to the surgery with the broken hip. Three hour shots of morphine injections is the only thing that got me through that. Back then they didn't use those automatic medicine dispensers, you got the needle. My life was pretty normal once I learned how to walk again.

Hip Replacement

Hi,

i am a 31 year old male and have been told that I need both my left and right knees and hips replaced.

I was wondering, can you please let me know if you have been able to lead a reasonably active life post-op, in terms of participation in sports and secondly have you needed a re-surfacing?

Thank you Smile

Hip Replacement Lifespan

Hi,

just doing the calculations you've had the hip replacement for 30 years. Did you get a replacement during this time.
People are saying hip replacements only last for approx 10-15 years before they need to be changed. That's why i'm still waiting for better materials to be introduced so they can last longer.
