Does anyone know what the probability is
of having regular periods and having
negative home pregnancy tests, yet still
being pregnant? My husband and I have
been ttc for over 5 months, and all home
pregnancy tests have come up negative,
however, last month my period was a little
weird. I had extremely light spotting for
4 days, then only bled at a medium flow
for 2 days (my period normally lasts 4-5
days). Then I heard that this could
happen. Does anyone know anything about
this?

When you say spotting is that so light
that a pad would be sufficient for a day?
I have heard of lighter periods happening
but I have also heard of having a period
while pregnant. Your best test to take is
to have a blood test done. In fact if you
and your husband are trying at this time
it would be a great idea to get a ob set
up, take a test there, have a yearly to
make sure all is well to try and discuss
with the ob about any concerns that you
may have. Good luck

The spotting was so light that one panty
liner was sufficient per day, and usually
it only showed up on the toliet paper.
When I actually bled, I think I used 2
tampons each of the days. Also, I do
already have an ob set up (thanks for
mentioning it though), and man was that a
pain in the ass. See, I had heart surgury
when I was little, and I go to checkups at
the cardiologist every other year. This
year, I made sure to be tested thoroughly
to be sure I could tolerate pregnancy, and
he said I was absolutley fine and I could
even go to a regular ob. So, I set up a
consultation appointment with a regular
ob, she took one look at my scar and
started repeating "i definately can't be
your ob, you have to go to a high risk
ob!" about 20 times. So after a lot of
phone tag and faxing between the 2 obs,
the cardiologist, and my insurance
company, I finally have an ob. The
funniest part is that it is the father of
one of my friends from high school (at
least i've never met him).

Oh then deffinantly make sure you talk to
him about your concerns. Get in with him
to get a blood test taken also if you seem
to have any other symptoms of pregnancy
that seem to pop up. So you and your
husband having been trying for 5 months?
Are you still young? Meaning you have not
hit that 30 point where they say it is
supposedly difficult to get pregnant?

Oh, and one other thing. My tummy looks
ever so slightly fatter lately. I don't
think i've gained any weight, but my tummy
seems to look lumpier. Maybe i'm just
crazy.

Still Curious Posted: 11-28-06 23:22pm
I'm still curious. I know that i'm
probably not pregnant right now, but I
still would like to know how rare it is
for a woman to have a monthly "period"
during pregnancy. I'm just wondering,
because it happened to a friend of mine,
and she didn't find out until she was 6
months pregnant! She finally went in and
had a blood test done because she was
gaining so much weight. She finally found
out that way, but she never had a home
pregnancy test show up positive.

Well, from what I can find on the
internet, it seems that an occurance like
this is pretty rare. Most medical
websites say it can't even happen (meaning
you can't technically have a true period
while you are pregnant, but you can have
bleeding or spotting). The friend whom I
mentioned that this happened to, said that
her periods were normally light anyway, so
she figured she was getting her period,
when actually she was having bleeding and
spotting from the pregnancy. Also, it is
common to get false negatives on home
pregancy tests, but I suspect it is very
rare to never show a positive home
pregnancy test during pregnancy, but I
couldn't really find much info on that
either.

I've heard of women having periods and
were pregnant.
My sisters sister in law also found she
was 8-12wks (can't remember which it was)
pregnant and never had a bfp on a hpt.
Am inclined to beleive, regardless of
medical opinions, that anything is
possible.
