When I get up I cant function im tired all day I cant seem to keep focused on the tasks at hand. you're experienceing symptoms of insomnia which are leading to chronic fatigue, which is making you irritable/grumpy/etc. i totally understand where you are coming from with not wanting to take the meds because i really hate taking meds (ironic how this lead me to start pill popping). However, coming from someone that has taken hours to fall alseep her whole life, you either have to take pills or just learn to deal with it. i've done both niether are fun options, but i guess dealing with it allowed me something else to be angsty about =)

Perhaps you should have a sleep study done. Insurance usually covers the cost. You could have restless legs syndrome. The "cramps" could also be from a potassium deficiency - try eating a banana or having some orange juice before bed. Hope this helps.
