My personal view (not critising anyone who did otherwise) is that you should not have a c-section unless it is medically required.

You were designed to give birth vaginally and unless some medical condition prevents you from doing so - I see no good reason to have a c-section.

ummm do you get to choose???? I didn't think that you got to choose unless there were complication of pregnancy and/or during delivery.

I can tell you that I wouldnt' have had a section if I didn't have to have one. I have this dip over my scar that probibly will never go away.....The pain is horrid and the healing process takes longer than ever. It's really bad. I wouldn't 'opt' for a section.

they won't do it upon request.Only if its necessary.

Ohhhhh no in england you can schedule a c-section.... Well at least you could - I haven't asked recently, but yeah there was this whole big thing with celebs and stuff scheduling c-sections which gave rise to the "too posh to push" wave.

I had a c-section, and unless you need one medically I wouldn't suggest it. Unless you like be in a lot of pain that is.

Yes, it does depends on your doctor but I dont really think it is a bad idea to get to choose. It really just deponds on the person and how they are with pain because i'm sure its painful either way right.

Why would you "choose" to have surgury - it's not something you do for fun.

When you have a c-section, they cut open your abdominal skin, abdominal muscles and your actual uterus.

They then stitch it back together and you are at a high risk of that scar in your uterus tearing during a subsequent pregnancy.

I have a scar in my uterus (not down to a c-section) why would you want to chose that?

Why would you want to put your self at risk?

It's not a light decision - it'll be with you for life.

Yes, labor hurts. But labor only lasts a short time, and you'll be able to walk out of that hospital. A c-section is major abdominal surgery. You'll be in serious pain for days, it'll be hard for you to do normal things you would ordinarily take for granted, like getting out of bed or a chair, or bathing, or getting your newborn when they start to cry. You'll have a painful cut in your stomach, and another in your uterus, which could rupture later on if you get pregnant again. Why would you risk that?

A c-section is by far more painful than a vaginal birth.

Some of you might not agree but in my opinion I would choose a c-section I recovered quicker and had less problems than vaginal birth. But just cause I had an easier time with a c-section dont mean you will if you choose to

I have 2 sections and with my first one everything healed up without a hitch....However I didnt' have a baby to bring home and take care of...With this baby I didnt' have a choice because it was so close to my last delivery and I had a classical section....And now everything around the incision area is numb and I can't feel anything except sharp pains every now and then that hurt so bad I can't move......I wouldnt' have chose a section but.....I had to have one and now I regret it.

Aww gen I understand hunni - I have a horrible vertical scar almost 8 inches long from my pube line - I look like I have a butt instead of a belly and it's numb but ticklish too.

that's idiotic. Some celebs here do that too....

trust me the pain lasts a lot more than a couple days. I don't understand why anyone would pick a c-section over a natural birth, there are a hell of a lot more risks involved in surgery. Silly people...

Both of mine are bikini cuts and it's really numb now and I can't stand it....Luckly it doesnt' go up and down.

When I was in the agony of labour I would have gladly had a c-sec if i'd been offered one but, in hindsight, i'm glad I didn't.

I was up and walking about within minutes of giving birth and even though my privates were sore for about a week or so, it was not so bad that it stopped me doing things I wanted to do.

A very good friend of mine had to have a c-section and she was bed-ridden for 3 weeks afterwards and she said the pain was awful. She couldn't do everything for her baby by herself and it led to her not bonding with the baby. I know she's not representative of everyone who has a c-sec but I would still prefer to give birth vaginally - even though it hurts like hell.

Well I have had both. First child was c-section and while the birth was nice and pain free afterwards it was horrible!! I dont think I could walk standing straight for a week! Also its painful and you need lots of help with the baby over the first couple of days because lifting and carrying can make it really bad!!!!


2nd time round I did it the natural way!! And although it was incredibly painful at the time, when it was over the pain was practicially gone. I had a few stiches and it really was nowhere as bad as the csection!! Plus it was alot easier to care for baby on my own!


If I have the choice I will never get a csection again!!After having both my boys I cant understand why so many people are happy about csections!!

Both of my babies were natural birth and they were big babies the 1st one was 10 lbs 2 ozs, very painful but yet very much worth it and I did tear pretty bad with him but it was so unique feeling the birth and I was not given anything for pain until I was being stitched up but by the time I got to the hospital it was too late for anything, the baby was on the way. I think if I were to have a baby this day and age I would do it where they have them in water as I have been told that it helps with the pain and the birth. (just my opinion and what I have heard as my kids are grown and on their own now).
