What Do You Think?
Posted: 11-30-06 17:36pm

I know this girl and well she wants to be able to have bunches of money for christmas so she went to her church and cried and lied and said her husband left her and she dont know where he is and put a sob story on and they paid her rent and gave her food...Which they dont need they get 700 in foodstamps and getting her kids christmas presents. Now she thinks this is funny now that she can use her husbands pay checks for whatever she wants........I dont agree with it for the simple fact there are people who could really use help..Should I keep my mouth shut and not say anything to her church? I just did not find it one bit funny when she was telling me this

Well, i'm not into the whole religious side of things but it is said by the church that "god" sees all and will do as he sees fit with those that do not abide by the 10 commandments of which one is thou shalt not steal.

She has to live with her own guilt.

However, I would probably speak to the pastor/minister in confidence and let him/her decide how his/her church wants to handle it.

What do you expect the church to do? I mean, now that they have given her the money out of the goodness of their hearts and paid her rent, what do you think they'll do? Send her a bill for their kindness?

I wouldn't expect anything to come of telling the church other than bitterness and spitefulness. You may want to just let the people at the church believe they've done something good and leave it at that.

Their hearts were in the right place. They were just given bad information from someone who will reap what she sows.

(i'm not religious, but I do believe we should do unto others...)

yes let them believe they did something good so the next time she goes there with another sob story they will do the same thing.

I wasn't being rude to you so don't be rude to me. I was simply stating that if they don't find out they will do the same thing again. I'm sure the girl won't feel guilty about since she apparently thinks it's funny.

i didn't mean to be rude. But think about the only person recieving any 'satisfaction' out of telling anyone in this situation? The people within the church give because it makes them feel good, like they are doing something worthwhile.

This person who lied to get her money will get her karma in the end. You watch, her car will break down and cost $1200 to fix or something.

What would be chase's reason for telling the church? So the church doesn't do it again? Trust me, the church may not give this girl money again, but they will be giving money to someone in the exact same situation, whether they lie or not. As it is, the people in the church feel like they have done something good - why tell them they haven't? Why ruin this for them? They won't take back the money. In fact, they probably have a policy of only giving money during certain times of year.

So what if this liar goes back? Does it affect you personally? Does that make you want to give to the needy any less? Liars and thieves are a dime a freaking dozen. In any program (welfare, wic, panhandling) they will find a way to work the system.

This is .Christmas. Let the giving spirit stay.

I understand what you mean about the people at the church. They probably would feel pretty crappy, I just hope they don't do the same thing again.

they will. It is in their nature. There will be some other poor slob who comes along and lies and gets money.

Those are the worst kinds of people ~ takers like that. Why would they do it? Because they can. Never fear, everything that comes around, goes around and they'll get exactly what they deserve. It might not be when we can witness it - but it will happen.

So this girl will have this one 'nice' .Christmas for her kids but she has to pay for it with lies. Doesn't sound very good to me.

She'll get it back in the end. I believe in .God so my take on it is that she stole from .God. It's in the bible that we reap what we sow. Don't worry, she'll reap it. I don't think it's in anyone's best interest to tattle. As a matter of fact I think it will negatively affect more people than it helps. Especially her poor aunt who has the misfortune of being related to her...
