Retinal Tear And Systemic Disorders? Posted: 02-02-04 10:48am
Hello,
a few years ago I had a retinal tear-
which basically means that there was a
tear inside my eye- this resulted in blood
spots (floaters) floating in the gel
inside my eye, which blurred my vision.
The doctors had no ideas what caused the
tear. They mainly asked me if I had
bumped my head at anytime, as this
sometimes can be the cause of such
problems.
However I have just read that some
systemic disorders such as sickle cell
disease can cause problems of this sort.
I do not have sickle cell disease or
disorder- however I do have sickle cell
trait. Which is not consistent with the
concept of retinal tears.
So my questions is can my sickle cell
trait be responsible for the tear in my
retina and more importantly can expect
more of these??
