I Need Help In a Big Way...somebody Has to Help Posted: 12-01-06 21:53pm
Im 26 years old and my mother is suffering
from paranoid schitzo...She has gotten
worse over the last 3 years..She was
diagnosed 2 years ago and went to see a
psychiatrist. She was given medication
and it helped bring down her symptoms to
the point where she didnt here the voices
anymore. She gained weight because of
that and stopped taking them. Fast
forward to now...She seems to be getting
to the point of self doubt and talking to
herself like she doesnt have control over
it. She will start crying for no reason
sometimes. I here her saying things like
stop following me and things of that
nature. She seems to think the voices she
hears is following her. She is delusional
about any pain she feels in her body like
leg pain or headaches are caused by this
person following her. She seems to think
there is nothing wrong with her and the
demons need to just leave her alone. She
seems to know that something is wrong with
her cause she will sometimes say "i want
to be my self again" she just doesnt
believe what we tell her is going on. She
only wants to believe her story. Right
now she is on some supplement pills like
niacin, b6,b complex, vitamin c,zinc and
fish oil..It takes time for the body to be
saturated with these things to start to
drop the symptoms. Before that
happens...I have to get her to a
comfortable point where she doesnt believe
that she is being followed. My main
reason for coming here was to ask anybody
here if they knew the cost of putting
somebody in a psych hospital? How much?
And how long? If that isnt the route then
what should I do? Psychologist? I think
I can do that myself by just listening to
her and helping her understand.
Anybody that can help with some info
please help.

You need to ask a psychiatrist all theses
questions, and quickly.

Hi my mom has schizophrenia also. I think
you have to try to get your mom back on
the medication. Make her an appointment to
see a psychiatrist and go with her. Talk
to her doctor and see if theres a
different medicine he could put her on. I
am not sure how much it would cost to send
someone to a mental hospital. When my mom
first started having the signs of
schizophrenia we took her to a local
hospital where they put her on the mental
floor. they didnt do much for her there
she just walked around all day and had
about a 20 minute group meeting once a
week. It was expensive. We are now
looking into getting my mom on SSD or SSI
to help pay for her medicines and to get
her health insurance. You should look into
that also your mom could be eligible.

A visit to the hospital depends on your
insurance. One plus is that's it's the
fastest way to schedule an appointment
with a specialist, but the downside is the
following. First, there's a catch. She
can either sign herself in if she wants
help, or she will need to be evaluated to
see if she is a candidate for an
involuntary commitment, which you will
likely be asked to sign. They will
only do this if certain criteria
are met and she's been seen by a crisis
case worker or someone else with similar
legal power and training. You can take
her to the hospital and they'll call one
to look at her, but if she's not
exhibiting anything dangerous to herself
or others at the moment she's there,
they'll just send her home. She has to
either want the help or be in a serious
enough state to warrant a stay. Otherwise
it won't happen.
