Wow! There is a lot of misinformation regarding .H.P.V and cervical cancer. Let me tell you a few facts:
an abnormal pap does not mean you have cervical cancer. How do I know this? Because I had cervical cancer.
An abnormal pap means there are abnormal cells on your cervix which can have many causes, the most common cause is .H.P.V. The high risk strains of .H.P.V
can lead to cervical cancer
if not treated. The lower risk strains of .H.P.V cause genital warts. You can have both strains of .H.P.V at the same time.
An abnormal pap should not affect your pregnancy and they may take a watch and wait approach since you are pregnant.
There are an astronomical amount of people who carry .H.P.V and do not know it. Doctors do not test for .H.P.V as part of their routine because there is nothing that can be done for it at this point. The body can rid itself of .H.P.V on it's own. Some women who have .H.P.V never get cervical abnormalities.
There is no test for .H.P.V in men which is why it is so prevelant. Men can have it, carry it around and pass it to you without ever knowing it. If you have had more than one partner in the past 10 years, you could have gotten .H.P.V from any of them. Same goes for your partner, if that is the only person you have ever been with.
Trust your doctor, go in for regularly scheduled pap smears and testing. You should be fine.
