i've been going to the gym regular for a
good 6 months now 3 times a week. I'm
making sure i'm fit enough for the fire
service when they start recruiting.
I normally do my cardio on the treadmil
then do the various weights.
I've made great progress with improving my
strength. A few months ago I couldn't
even bench press 50kg now I can do 4/5
reps on 60kg.
I don't feel that i've put on the muscle
bulk to back this up though. I don't look
like I would be strong enough to lift
this.
One of my mates, his muscle and bulk is as
big as mine yet he can only just do 50.
Can anyone explain this to me?
I mean, as long as I know i'm strong
enough it's good, but it would be nice to
have the visible muscle to back this up.

Thanks for the reply mate.
I'm taking a week off from the gym at the
moment.
I realise I have been making a fair few
mistakes:
a) doing cardio before weights - this uses
up valuable energy and reduces lifting
potential. I will now train my cardio and
days I don't lift.
B)unbalanced program. I have been
training certain body parts too often,
e.G. Biceps. I will now train each
muscle only once a week, and a different
muscle each time I go 3 times a week.
C) protein intake. I may or may not have
been taking in enough. But it's a focus
now. I will aim for 102 grams of protein
a day. I weigh 133 pounds. This should
be enough to repair and build muscle fibre
without overloading.
