Q: Tylenol dose for Infant
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 7th, 2006
I'm taking my daughter to the doctors tomorrow for her first set of shots. She is 2 months old. My question is, at the last appointment the doctor told me that if I wanted to I could start giving her baby tylenol the morning of her shots but I never even thought to ask how much and how often? Thanks a lot!

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a non-steroid, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used as a painkiller and to reduce high body temperature (fever). The most common side effect from vaccines is a fever and that’s why your doctor proposed you use Tylenol. You can give your baby Tylenol if needed, which means only if it has a fever. The maximum daily dose for that age is 40mg once every 4 hours. If the baby has a fever for more than 3 days, you can bring the child to a doctor.
