My dh doesn't want us to tell our friends or family that we are ttc or having a baby until we are 12 weeks pregnant. I can tell that this is going to be hard, especially over the holidays. Most of our couple friends are ttc, pregnant, or new parents. In addition, we are social drinkers. How often can I be the designated driver or "not feel like drinking" before people start asking? Before we started trying, I once was asked if I was pregnant because I said I didn't want a glass of wine before dinner. Does anyone have advice on this?

Btw, I had a bout of nausea this morning without any other symptoms of being sick or having a migraine. I know it is too early for morning sickness (my lh surged tuesday and today is sunday), but i'm hopeful anyway.

Simply say you are on a course of anti-biotics and do not wish to mix drink with them, and have therefore chosen to be the designated driver for the holiday season as your health is more important to you.

I not only quit social drinking but I also quit smoking. No one even questioned why I wasn't doing either.

Good luck!

Thank you for the advice. The antibiotic idea is great. I don't think many people would ask why I was on antibiotics, except of course my mother. I'll let the hubby take that one. Wink

You could also say that you have made the choice to quit/cut back on drinking for a while for health reason/personal reasons/to help lose weight/none of your business/etc...

I'm going through the same thing dh didn't want anyone to know especially family. After a month or two he realized that I needed to talk to someone or I would drive him crazy! So I got to tell a few friends (just two) but that helped a lot maybe you could suggest that. If he says yes I would suggest friends who you know have gone through the ttc scene others just don't understand and you don't want to waste your "picks" if not we are here for you and the antibiotics area good idea. I also have mixed in the occasional "i just got rid of a head ache and don't want to get another one.
