So I think my mom kinda suspects that i'm
pregnant but I don't want to tell her
until my ultrasound(3 weeks). But she
started lecturing me on how she regrets
starting her family early and then she
points to my cold sore( I get them like
maybe twice a year and they aren't even
that noticable) and she like "that's a
virus you know?" and i'm like duh. (i
think its the same as a herpes virus...But
i've never ever had herpes and niether has
my partner..I just get a cold sore on my
lip sometimes.) and she's like you know
they just found that the same virus
affects baby's brains from developing and
some of them have mental retardationg.
And i'm like and then I went
downstairs and got emotional and started
crying. That's not true is it?!?!
Ummm no that is bs im pretty sure. Cold
sores are a herpes simplex, but different
than the one you get down there. I get
cold sores too sometimes, and about 80% of
the population has the herpes simplex that
causes cold sores, its just that in most
people it stays dormant. In some people
it comes out when they get stressed or
sick.
Your baby will be fine.

My mother is the devil. I literally
started bawling after she told me. And I
partly didn't even believe it..Just the
thought made me sick. Why would she lie
about something like that??

You have nothing to worry about just
because you have a cold sore. It is a
herpes virus but not the type you get
downstairs. There is no evidence that
this can be passed to the baby to cause
damaging syndromes. Don't worry, your mom
is probably just worried. I hope
everything works out.

Ugh. Your mom was probably just trying to
make you confess to being pregnant, if
she's already suspecting it. That's
extremely insensitive of her. Don't worry
about your cold sore, your baby will be
fine!

Totally agree with all the other posts, no
way!!
I mean, there may very well be viruses
that effect a developing baby, maybe, like
meningitus, or rubella.
Perhaps even genital herpes-but as far as
I know even genital herpes is not a huge
deal unless you have a major outbreak at
the time your baby is actually being
born-and even so, it would'nt be effecting
their brains!!
Your mother might've meant well....
Also, by the way, my mum has always come
out with cold sores from time to time,
since she was a kid, and myself and my
sisters are definatrely ok in terms of
retardation!!!!
I've never even had a cold sore myself.

I'm with krissy your mom was probably just
trying to get you to confess. Parents
are schizo sometimes. Not very well done
of her at all.

Yeah i'm gonna yell at her for that after
I tell her. For scaring me. But I
actually looked around on the net and
apparently..If you have an active herpes
(which I don't have) outbreak at the time
of your due date or during labour, they
are forced to perform a c section because
if the newborn comes in contact at all
with the outbreak it can catch whats
called neonatal(sp?) herpes and it can be
fatal to them. It also said that you have
to be careful when you do have a cold sore
and you kiss your baby. Because they can
catch that virus as well. Scary.
doesnt say anything about the development
about the brains or anything. Phew!

I thought they only did that with an
active outbreak of genital herpes,
¬ the herpes simplex of cold sores
or whatever?

Maybe you should just get it over with,
how far along are you? I hid it from my
mom and told her the day I had the
ultrasound.. Showed her the pictures she
was soooo pissed there were many morning
and nights of screaming and freaking out,
she told me it was "babies having babies!"
even tho I was 19 it wasnt like I was 14
or anytihng..But most of them get over it,
will it be her first grandbaby?

One of my friends has gential herpes and
when she was about 8 1/2 months preggo or
so, her ob put her on the medication used
to treat it, so she didn't have an
outbreak. She was able to have her
daughter naturally.
If she didn't go on the medication they
would have delivered c-section so not to
infect the baby. It isn't because it
damages the babies brain it's for
contamination.
Your mom knows and is trying to get you to
confess.
