Hi,
I have not used this site before and I'm
looking for a bit of advice, recently my
mother has developed what I believe to be
panic attacks, thinking back though i
think she has had them before, but never
this bad. Whilst abroad in the caribbean
a few weeks ago my mother became ill with
a nasty bug, whilst out one day she became
very faint, short of breath and her heart
was pounding. She put this down to the
bug, but I am not so sure, I am a student
nurse and I believe this to be a panic
attack, especially as during the trip home
she became worse and it frightened my
sister and father who were with her.
She described her time on the plane as the
worst of her life, but she can't describe
what is wrong with her, she becomes
flustered and tearful if she tries. She
said that on the flight all she could
think of was getting through each minute,
she said she felt as if she was having a
heart attack, not being able to breath
properly and feeling faint, like she was
about to pass out and waves of feeling
sick. I have been reading some of the
posts on here from those people who do
suffer, am I right, is this panic attack?
from other reading, I believe it is, as
the symptoms manifested with her seem to
be what is experienced during an attack.
Can anyone tell me if I'm right? I just
want to make sure that I'm right, I want
to help her and fast to help her on the
road to recovery before it takes over her
life. I have also read about the Linden
method, has anyone used it? would you
recommend it or can you recommend any
other treatments?.
Thank you for taking the time to read this
and for replying.

If you're having panic attacks, have you
been to a doctor? It's important to seek
professional help.I get panic attacks,I
never used to,but it turned out to be my
thyroid.I never dreamed I'd have a thyroid
problem. And I never knew how important
your thyroid is.There are many people
walking around with "emotional problems"
caused by thyroid and have no idea.
That is what mine are from and I take
med for it.You really need to seek the
help from a doctor. If you haven't gone to
a general dr,you need to.They will refer
you if needed or they may have the
answer.But don't put if off,ok?

Hanson it sounds like it may well be panic
disorder but it never hurts to get checked
out. If it is I would strongly recommend
cbt it has been proven to be the most
effective treatment for panic disorder and
anxiety.
