Can You Conceive When Spotting In Between Periods?
Posted: 12-14-06 18:21pm

Hello all
i've never posted on a group site before, but lately i've been so desparate to find someone that can relate, i'm really hoping that somebody can offer up some encouraging words.
I'm 38 years old, and my husband and I have been ttc for 17 months. I've had all the tests, and nothing shows abnormal except for a minor case of endometriosis. I've been told this can hinder conception, but on the other hand I have plenty of friends who have concieved just fine with endometriosis. What i'm most concerned about is the spotting I have a week before my period. This started about 5 years ago, and seems to be getting worse with age. Has anyone out there succesfully conceived even though they have consistant irregular bleeding before your period? I'm starting to give up hope...And getting quite depressed. Help anyone?

Yes...You can. I am also 38 and have been spotting between periods for over a year. It starts the day after ovulation and goes for about week. I had my progesterone checked which could cause it and the level was normal. Have your Dr. Check your prog level about 4 days after ovulation to see if there is a drop. If there is, it can prevent pregnancy. I have conceived 4 times now since 09/05 and have miscarried 3 times. I just found out i'm pregnant again. I have been convinced that whatever is causing the spotting is causing the babies to quit developing at 6 weeks. But, my doctor has not taken the concern seriously about the spotting after ovulation. I am as depressed as you and have posted also regarding this issue with no responses. I understand your frustration!

Dprsd: we lost some of our messages, but I wanted to fill you in. My pregnancy is once again not viable. I asked my specialist again why this is happening and if it's caused by the spotting between periods. She still doesn't know. I asked what is causing the spotting at ovulation since my progesterone is normal. No idea. She said it is most likely hormonal but hard to pinpoint. I am so frustrated that I am now giving up. Four miscarriages in 1 year and 2 months is enough for me. We are going to pursue adoption. She told me that since all my tests are coming back normal, there are two options...Fertility medication (which I have no trouble conceiving but helps regulate the hormones) or ivf with genetic testing. So, if you find out what is causing your issues with the spotting, please let me know. I'll do the same. I'm going to get a second opinion on possible causes. Truly, I think it's because I was on depo for four years. I have a son that is 8-1/2 and had no problems. After I had him, I got divorced and went on depo. I believe that it has thrown my hormones out of whack. Anyway, I wanted to get back to you and let you know the latest. Keep me informed how you are doing and hope you had a great holiday.

Dear heidijo8, i'm sooooo sorry that it happened again. That is terrible. Crying
or Very sad genetic testing sounds like a good idea, I really hope they can come up with something. I read somewhere that they can also take a sample of the uterine lining to make sure it has developed properly for implantation. So strange and so sad. If focusing on adoption brightens your spirits, I pray your dreams are fulfilled.
I'm doing ok. I'm in waiting mode again. I bought ovulex 3 weeks ago and i'm praying that it worked. Af is due on jan 12th. I don't have any cm. Absolutely zero. But we tried anyway, just incase. I have my first appointment with the fertility clinic on feb 16th. I will meet with a specialist who will go over my file to see if they can either figure out what is wrong, or reccomend an assited approach. I think we may start with iui with no drugs....And if that doesn't work, maybe clomid with iui. I pray that 2007 is better than 2006. I think last year was the most dissapointing year of my life. I know I should be thankful for my health and a loving husband, but I just can't manage to change my attitude. It's so frustrating and depressing. Two more of my friends revealed that they are pregnant at christmas. That brings the count now to 20. I know it's unhealthy for me to keep track of these things...Why do I do it? I don't know...It's torture. Anyway, I still had a great christmas with my inlaws and a mellow ny eve. Thanks for getting back to me.
I would love to hear how you are doing. I will keep you posted on my progress.
