i usually post in the tmj forum, but
wondered if anyone can help me here. I am
in my 30's but have suffered from
arthritis of the tmj (jaw joint) for
several years, my surgeon to date has
performed a rib graft that failed and a
joint replacement that also failed (metal
allergies), this was to my right side.
In the end he removed the rejected
titanium joint and now I have what's
called a pseudo joint, basically whilst my
body was fighting the metal implant, it
formed a "fake" joint from my own tissue,
mostly scar tissue and that's what is
working (not very well) my left side.
Now I have a ct scan booked for 12th jan.
As my right jaw joint is degenerating
badly and they suspect arthritis in this
side also. I had a fracture to the left
side 15 years ago and it was thought that
is why I developed arthristis, but there
has been no trauma to the right side so I
am at a loss as to why this has happened.
If anyone else has suffered from
arthritis in the tmj joint I would love to
hear from as my future is very scary
because my surgeon knows he cannot use
metals if the right side has to be
replaced.
