Q: Calculating pregnancy age & due date
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 29th, 2006
I went for a scan on the 1st december and told i was 7wks pregnant. I then had another today and was told im 11wks which adds up fine. My due date is around the 20th of july but im confused as i thought that since they arent using my last period for how many weeks pregnant i am they are using from conception, why are they counting 40wks forwaard and not 38? Hope ive made some sense? Also, when roughly wud i have ovulated in october wen my last period was september 26th and my cycles are at the most...34 days. Please answer, thanku.

Because even when you know your likely ovulation - all pregnancies are counted the same way -> 40 weeks from the beginning of your last period.

This is why you "estimated due date" is just that *estimated*

Ovulation would have been likely around the 11th oct for a 28 day cycle and 16th for a 34 day cycle.

Although it is not possible to say for sure.

Typically ovulation is 12-16 days before your next period is due.
