After Having Genital Warts
Posted: 12-29-06 21:30pm

I had a wart on the side of my penis but its been frozen off now and hasnt reappeared.
But I still have a problem, though I dont have any warts can I still pass on the hpv to women? Or am I forever having to use a condom?
If so whats the risk of passing on hpv if we are trying to have a baby?

If you are still carrying the hpv virus in your body then yes it can be passed on. Genital warts are only the physical manifestation of the virus, just because the wart has gone doesn't mean the virus has gone. It can take anywhere from six months to a couple of years for your body to rid the virus. This depends on your immune system. Very occasionally it never goes away, though this is rare. Getting sti tested can confirm whether or not you are still carrying hpv.

In the meantime, even wearing a condom you are still risking passing it on because warts can occur not just on the penis, but on the whole genital area. The only way to be safe is to have no sexual contact until you are clear.
