Q: Chlamydia and infertility
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 30th, 2006
I was diagnosed with Chlamydia in 2004 and I wasn't told about it until one year later in 2005 but I was immediately treated for it in 05. My question is, will that one year gap from treatment prevent me from having children? Will that one year harm my fertility? My fiancee and are trying to have a baby and I'm not sure if me having Chlamydia in the past will hurt our chances! I'm scared that I can't have a baby b/c of this. Please someone give me some kind of an answer?

40% of women with untreated chlamydia develop pelvic inflammatory disease (pid) and it is this that typically causes infertility.

However, untreated chlamydia, without pid can lead to infertility not only in women but in men too.

The best thing you can do is get a fertility work up from your gyn, to make sure your tubes aren't scarred and that your ovaries are functioning properly.
