Pregnancy age & paternity
Posted: 12-30-06 13:26pm

I am 11 weeks and one day pregnant and i have had two scans already, one at 7wks as i had a lot of bleeding. The problem is i had sex with some one on the 14th oct (very early hours of the morning, 5am) and then my actualy bf the following friday 21st, early hours. My period was on the 26th sept, and my cycles 34 days at the most. Who would the father most likely be? When i was told i was 7 weeks after they had measured it at the scan i dated back 7 weeks and it took me back to a few days before i ovulated and exaclty 7weeks since (to the day) i had slept with my ex but i just dont know if that wud make him the dad. So confused. Please help. Im 11 weeks and one day and when i count back it takes me to the 13th oct. Also, about 11 days after i had sex with my ex and 3 days after i had selpt with my bf i started to bleed. Wud that have been implantation bleeding making my ex most likely the father?

The age of a pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last menstruation. If your last period started on September 26th, you should be about 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant on the 30th of December. The other option is that your last menstruation was not on the 26th of September, but on the 24th of October (the bleeding you experienced 3 days after sleeping with your boyfriend). If we conjecture that October 24th was the beginning of the last menstruation, then you would be 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant on the 30th of December.
An ultrasound scan does not calculate a pregnancy age according to the calendar (and thereby the last menstruation date)... but according to the embryo’s dimensions. Using an ultrasound, the embryo's dimensions are compared with statistically standard values and an approximate age is assigned. There is usually a difference between a pregnancy age calculated by the ultrasound apparatus and that calculated using the calendar.
Your ultrasound result (11 weeks and 1 day) is closer to 9weeks and 5days than to 13weeks and 5days. That’s why it seems more likely that your last menstruation was on the 24th of October rather than on the 26th of September. Therefore, we can guess that you probably conceived in the first half of November.
