High Blood Pressure, Hypertension, High Cholesterol Answer A Posted: 01-11-07 04:12am
In more than 95% of all cases of
hypertension, the reason for high blood
pressure is unknown. This kind of high
blood pressure is called "idiopathic", or
"essential" hypertension. It is believed
that idiopathic hypertension is
genetically conditioned and the result of
a disorder in the metabolism of sodium.
The psycho-emotional structure of the
person experiencing hypertension also has
an influence on the development of
arterial hypertension. For remaining cases
of those experiencing high blood pressure
(5%), hypertension is a symptom of some
other disease. This type of hypertension
is called "secondary", or "non-essential"
hypertension. Some kidney diseases and
endocrine diseases can cause hypertension,
for example. High blood pressure combined
with high blood cholesterol, high blood
sugar, and smoking are the main risk
factors for developing atherosclerosis.
Atherosclerosis is responsible for cordial
and brain attacks. High blood pressure
also damages the kidneys and eyes. You can
visit your primary health provider several
times to accurately measure your blood
pressure before establishing that the
diagnosis is arterial hypertension. Any
treatment and further diagnostic
procedures to clarifying the type of
hypertension will follow after
establishing the correct diagnosis. You
can also visit your primary health
provider several times to measure the
blood pressure before establishing that
