Date of concetion & paternity Posted: 12-31-06 20:59pm
Hi,
The first day of my last period was Nov.
20. Today I found out I was pregnant. My
cycle for the past 8 months have been very
irreg. ranging from 40-63 days. I am
trying to find out what was the conception
date. In the beginning and end of Dec I
had sex with my boyfriend (no protection
all times) but on Dec 16 I slept with
someone else. He only went a little in me
and I took the morning after pill the next
morning. There is no way that this could
be the other guys baby right. This is my
boyfriends baby right? I just need your
help to make this a less stressful
pregnancy.
Thank you

It is impossible to say.
It doesn't matter if he "went in you" or
not.
The penis is naturally lubricating and
because of how this fluid is produced it
very commonly contains some sperm. This
is enough to get you pregnant if you are
fertile at that time.
As your periods are very irregular it is
impossible to predict when you were likely
to have ovulated.
If you have got a positive result on a
home pregnancy test you are most likely at
least 10-14 days past ovulation.
And as ovulation is typically around 14
days before your period is due,
the chances are you conceived sometime
around mid december.
You need to book an appointment with your
doctor to arrange a booking scan and to
discuss your options.
The only way you are going to know for
sure who the father is is to have a
paternity test done after the baby is
born.
Both the poential fathers will need to
give a dna sample for comparision.
It is possible to have the paternity test
done earlier with an amniotic test, again
both potential fathers will need to give
an dna sample, and this process also
carries an increased risk of miscarriage.

If your menstrual cycle is irregular, it
is fairly impossible to determine the day
of ovulation and estimate the date when
conception occurred. If the second sexual
partner ejaculated in you, the distance or
amount of vaginal penetration becomes
irrelevant. It seems that in this case,
only DNA-tests can detect the real father.
