they count from either your last period of from 2 weeks before conception (if you know your ovulation date).

You say yourself that your periods are not regular and are often closer to 34 than 28 days which means you have an irrgular follicular phase and unless you have been charting for sometime and know your luteal phase that ovulation could be anywhere from as long a follicular phase day 24 of your cycle to as short a follicular phase as day 10 realistically speaking.

That's 2 weeks during which time ovulation is likely. Unless you know where you ovulate during that time then the ultrasound scans are your best dating calculation.

Ultrasounds are quite accuarate these days.

sorry hope I dont sound stupid but I dont really know wot u mean by "follicular phase" I reckon that I would have ovulated around the 15th oct, but how many days are u actually fertile, is it 2 days before and 2 days after u ovulate? I had sex on the 14th oct and the 21st oct and I bled which I think cud have been implanation bleeding on about the 22nd, my period (if it had came) wud have been due roughly on the 30,31st oct. Wots the date I wud most likely have conceived, its quite important that I know wot date is the most likliest. My scan told me on 1st dec that I was 7 weeks and that takes me back to the 14th so do u think it wud have been that time??? Thanku. Please write back.

Extremely eHealthy
If you bleed on the 22 then you most likely conceived on the 14. It takes about 7-10 days for implantation.

this is the time from the beginning of your period until ovulation (when the follicles in the ovary are ripening).

no, as I said before sperm can live for up to 5 days and an egg is viable for about 36 hours so your window of high fertility is from 5 days before ovulation until the day after.

implanatation bleeding (if it happens which it doesn't often) is usually not more than 4 days before yourperiod would have been due.

we can't tell you when you convceived but ultrasounds are pretty accurate. So if the ultrasound says 7 weeks on dec 1 then that is quite likely.

Still Confused
Im still confused to how they are working out my due date. The scan said I was 7wks on 1st december, if they were going by my last period they wud be using 26th sept, making me 9wks and 3 days. So I dont understand why they have counted 40weeks forward from my estimated conception date, shudnt it be 38??? I work out I should be due roughly around the 7th july. I know babys just come when they are ready, but wud like to get this confusion sorted! ?????

Because your periods were longer than 28 days apart they will count 40 weeks (plus however many days extra on 28 your cycle is) from the date of your last period.

Just relax and accept the ultra sound dating as you are only confusing yourself more and more.

If your scan says 7 weeks on dec 1st then your edd is jul 6th
