Testosterone and sexual development Posted: 01-02-07 01:37am
Hello, I think I might have a problem, I
was a late bloomer sexually, and I
developed slower then most of my friends,
For instance it seems i would get things
2-3 years after my friends, like armpit
hair and i am 18 and barely have any
facial hair, My friend said that because i
am bigger that the fat might actually
cause my body to create less testosterone
then others, should i take testosterone
pills to increase my facial hair and what
not?

Development of primary and secondary
sexual characteristics of any human is
genetically conditioned. During puberty,
the pituitary gland in males produces the
hormones FSH and LH. FSH and LH stimulate
the testicles to produce spermatozoids and
the hormone testosterone. Testosterone is
the hormone that stimulates development of
the secondary sexual characteristics in
men (deeper voice, hair growth, stronger
musculature, body’s height increase…).
Testosterone production does not depend
upon body mass. The production of
testosterone, rather, depends upon
hormonal stimulation from the pituitary
gland and from the testicles. You
mustn’t take any hormones without
consulting an endocrinologist first.
