Just need to get this out. I'm really very very nervous now. I had my daughter prematurely. My water ruptured and there was no real reason why it happened. She was due on 8/11 and born on 5/26. She was 2 lbs and 7 oz. She did remarkably well. She was in the hospital for about 6 weeks. They started her out on oxygen, but she didn't need it. I brought her home when she weighted 4 lbs 4 oz, a month before she actually should have been here. The only real effect she had from being that early was she did have some problems with her eyes (lazy), which was mostly corrected with surgery when she was 4. Today, she is a beautiful mouthy 16 year old who thinks she rules the roost.

I'm just a little past that marker with this pregnancy, but worry constantly that it's going to happen again. My doc says the liklihood of it happening again is slim and everything looks great, but I can't help but think about it all the time.

Well as you already know stressing isn't going to help. Do you have some sort of hobby (scrapbooking, reading or someting esle) that you can do when you catch yourself overtinking it? Thats what I have to do when ever I start stressing out about my husband, I have to go out of my way to do and think about something else. Hope that helps a little, if your doctors not concerend that is a very good thing!

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I know stressing isn't going to help or change anything, and yes the fact that my doc isn't concerned is helpful.
I do stay busy. My job keeps me busy, go to watch my daughter cheer, and have plenty to do around the house that keeps me occupied.

I just get down about it, and was looking for support

thanks

Are you on any bedrest or anything? And did u get a cerlage(sp). Usually I would think they take precautions with that witha previous premature birth. I would just take it easy as much as possible. Easier said then done I know. But stress isnt good for the baby. Try to enjoy it Smile

No, not on bedrest, and i'm not sure what the other thing you asked is???

My doc watches me closer than normal, but says it's unlikley that it'll happen again. She also watches me close because i'm 35.

When I say stressed, I don't mean I obsess about it and get worked into a frenzy. I just think about it sometimes and worry about it.

I know that isn't healthy and do try to avoid stress as much as possible, as much as any working adult can anyway.

Thank you for your reply. Congrats on your new baby!

A cerclage is for a lazy cervix and not one previous premature birth.

It is a special stitch put into the cervix to stop it opening as some women have a "lazy cervix" that is "weak".

Many many women have a premature birth and then go on to have a perfectly normal one (or more) afterwards.

Premature rupture of membranes would be a fluke, I think. A cerclage couldn't prevent that. Nor could bedrest.

If your doctor doesn't have any concerns, other than your advanced maternal age (anyone over 35 is considered 'advanced maternal age. Isn't that sad?), you should try not to think of it. Easier said that done, I know! But that was the best advice I had.

Good luck! And enjoy your 16 month old!

I know it's sad that 35 is "advanced maternal age", but...I have gone through all the tests, including the amniocentesis (sp?) and all came back great.

My daughter is 16 years, not 16 months. I wish. There are a lot of things I would do (will do) differently.

This is such a special time for us, and want everything to go well. I'll be glad to get it done with though.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
