Hi!
I'm 16 and a half and still don't have my
period. I know i'm probably overreacting
but i'm freakin out about infertility! I
have had anorexia which may have postponed
getting my period and stuffed up my
system. I got it once last april so does
that mean i'm gonna be ok?????? I guess
i'm just paranoid as all of my friends got
there's ages ago. Right now I am
experiencing a sticky, white discharge
which smells awful and I absolutely feel
disgusting with. I don't want to get
intimate with any guy as i'm so
embarrassed of the downstairs situation!
Please give me some peace of mind! I'm
too shy to see a gyno haha. Thanks

If you're underweight, or if you diet too
much, it could very well be what's
delaying your period. That's about all I
know about that. The discharge could be
an infection of some kind, so you need to
see the gyno anyway to get checked out,
and get the right meds to fix it.

If you're still underweight, your period
may be irregular. I had anorexia when I
was in college and my periods were
irregular until my weight was above 105
lb. If you're still exercising too much
or not eating properly, that my also cause
irregular periods.
As for the discharge...It sounds
absolutely normal to me. All women get
this (though it tends to dry out if a
women is on birth control pills). It is
cyclical with your cycle--you will have
little or sticky discharge right after
your period, then creamy/lotiony white or
yellowish-tinted discharge, then around
the time you ovulate, you tend to have a
lot of it resembling uncooked eggwhites.
After ovulation, discharge tends to dry up
though you may have a little in the 2
weeks before your period. As long as it
doesn't smell fishy or yeasty and you
don't itch down there, you are probably
fine. It is nothing to be embarrassed
about.

My roommate didn't get her period until
she was 17, right before she started
college (she was also underweight), so I
wouldn't worry. As long as your eating
disorder is under control and you're
gaining weight or are at a healthy weight,
you should be fine soon enough. Hopefully
your doctor is monitoring your progress.
They can always put you on birth control
to regulate your periods if it concerns
you. And the fact that you're getting
discharge is a good sign that your body is
going through puberty and your period will
come soon. Until then, stop stressing
(because it will only delay your period)
and enjoy life without cramps or pms for a
while!
