Just Curious

Hi everyoneeeee. I was just curious about
something my mom brought up with me.
I just started my spring semester of
college, and am no longer employed due to
the heavy course load. Then me and my mom
somehow got onto the subject that I need
to lose weight (probably because I spent
alot of my wages on junk food). She then
offered me a certain amount of money if I
lost it. Now the question.
Would you see this as an incentive or a
bribe?
Note: I would lose the weight with or
without the money for her and for myself,
but I was wondering if anyone else would
feel weird about being offered money to
lose weight.

Hmm. This is tricky.
First off, am I correct in assuming you're
not pregnant? I'm pretty sure you aren't,
but in case you are (or if anyone else
reading this is pregnant and wanting to
lose a bit of weight) dieting during
pregnancy is not safe!
okay, on with my post!
i think it might be an incentive, yes.
But she probably has your health in mind,
and is trying to convince you to take
healthy measures in any way she can think
of. I'm not sure that I would the money
route with my own daughter, but I would
probably offer to take her shopping for a
new wardrobe when she dropped a size or
two. I would want to do something to
build her self-esteem and reward her
progress.
I don't see anything mean-spirited in
offering money, though. You said yourself
that you want to lose the weight
regardless of the money she's offered. I
personally wouldn't be offended by it or
feel weird. It's obvious she loves you
and is hoping you'll make changes to your
diet and lifestyle.
Good luck with it! I think .Bridget
(iheartmybostonterrier) started .Weight
.Watchers recently and she's making good
progress. You might want to pm her, or
maybe she'll reply on this post. But keep
us updated, hon!

Lol thnx laura, and you're right; i'm not
pregnant ^_^. I just felt weird I guess
because it had to come down to her
offering me money? I wasn't offended at
all (i know i've got a case of the chubs
 ) but I don't
really like taking money from her now that
i'm older, if you know what I mean? My
mom actually wanted me to try some kind of
weight loss program similar to bridget's,
i'll wait and see her opinion on it.
I know my mom is worried now
(i've gained about 20-30 pounds in less
than a year), so she really wants me to
lose what I gained. I'll keep posting
once in awhile, hopefully i'm succesful.

I think it just depends on who ask you to
lose weight. Like if my husband did I
would slap his damn face.

Lol I skipped over the part where you said
you would buy your daughter a new
wardrobe, I should have also said that the
money my mom was offering was exactly for
that; for a new wardrobe.
And chase, that was funny, it made me
laugh. I'm one of the few girls that
doesn't really get offended about my
weight. I mean, if it's an honest
statement at least. If it's insulting,
then yeah, i'll get offended. Lmao just
the other day my brother was all "hey
tubby, you want another pop tart tubby?"
you better believe I slapped him 'cross
his dome.

Meh, I get mega-offended quite easily
about my weight. And i'm pretty thin.
It's not really the weight, but how the
weight sits on my frame, that .I'm not
entirely happy with. I still have a bit
of a belly, and it drives me nuts. I
guess it's trivial, but .I'm pretty
self-concious about it.
A lot of people tell me I look good "for
having a baby" and I say "thanks, that's
so sweet! ...What do you mean by that?"

*sigh* I need to learn to be happy with
myself.

I wish someone was offering me money to
lose weight!
If you want to do it I highly recommend
weight watchers. It is wicked easy and
you really can eat whatever you want. I
love candy and I eat it every day! For
weight watchers everything has a point
value based on calories, fat and fiber
(for example an apple is 2 points) and you
get a certain amount of points per day
based on your weight. You're pretty much
guaranteed to lose weight as long as you
stay within your daily points range, if
you exercise you get bonus points.
I've lost 80 pounds on it in the past so I
know it works. Wednesday is my 2 week
mark and i've lost 5 pounds so far.
I do it by myself at home because I don't
want to spend money on meetings. I think
they have free registration right now so
you could always go sign up and get the
tools (they have a guide book and a slider
that will figure out points for you) and
do it yourself.
It really is awesome!
(geez, you'd think I worked for them or
something.)

Aww laura, I used to be that way, now I
just learned to live with it.
I have always thought you were one of the
prettiest women here, and to be honest, I
don't see any belly at all, u look
awesome!
i think it's funny when people ask me my
weight, and their reaction when I tell
them. They always think I weigh less, but
I guess my 'extraness' is just distributed
more through out my body rather than
concentrated in one place.
What does wreak havoc on my self esteem
are the massive stretchmarks I have gotten
as a result of my rapid weight gain. I
get them everyyyywhereeee. Oh well.
And just a random question, you wouldn't
happen to know the words of the merry mack
rhyme would you?

thanks very much! But it's there, I
promise!
.I've made peace with my stretchmarks. I
just consider them the price I paid to
bring .Alyvia into the world, so they're
well worth it.
I think the .Mary .Mack rhyme goes
something like:
miss mary mack, mack, mack
all dressed in black, black, black
with silver buttons, buttons, buttons
all down her back, back, back
she asked her mother, mother, mother
for fifty cents, cents, cents
to see the elephant, elephant, elephant
jump over the fence, fence, fence
i think there's more, but my memory is
crap

Dangggg bridget! 80 pounds eh? I need
about half that. Lol, if you don't mind
my asking, how long did it take?
And awesome thnx laura, it's been bugging
me for weeks now, I didn't know the words.
I was watching the simpson's the other
day, and some kids at a preppy preschool
were playing a game like merry mack but
the words were:
cross my heart and hope to die
here's the numbers that make pi:
3.14159, blah blah blah.
So now i'm determined to memorize pi to as
many digits as I can, lmao.

Lol, maybe I would be better served
studying physics or chemistry instead of
memorizing 1 million digits of pi eh?
Lol. It would be a fun game to play
though! The fibonacci sequence would be
even worse!
On the subject of weight loss again, ive
heard people swear that giving up soda has
helped them lose lots of weight, and was
wondering if it was ever true for any
ladies on here?
And a question for kia ^_^: my boyfriend
insists that diet soda is as bad as
regular soda, in regards to sugar content,
but I thought left-handed sugars weren't
digested well at all (sugar found in diet
soda's) whereas regular soda's have right
handed sugars? So wouldn't diet be better
than regular? Lol, i'm not drinking
either from now on, but it did get me
thinking

i lost the first 50 in about 8 months,
then the other 30 I lost doing it off and
on for about a year. If i'd committed
non-stop I could've done it in a year but
after a while I need a break. I never
gained any of it back until I got pregnant
though, even when I went back to living
off candy and fast food. Then I gained 10
when I got pregnant, 10 after I miscarried
(emotional overeating), and 60 while
pregnant with finn, so I was right back
where I started. Luckily I was down about
25 pounds within 3 weeks of giving birth,
but that was just baby and placenta and
fluids.

Lol i've never heard sugars called left or
right handed.
*giggles*
but I always understood that "diet" soda
was just as bad for you, because it
usually contains a lot more artificial
sweetners.
Also no added sugar does not mean no
sugar. Items with "no added sugar"
usually have a lot of sugar to begin
with.
One weight loss idea (i've yet to try) is
to drink at least 8 glasses (250ml) of ice
cold water (cut out other drinks or
replace them with more ice cold water).
Your body uses calories to warm the water,
and water is calorie free.
Or
eat 4 meals per day. Each meal is (to be
consumed in order):
500mls ice cold water
2 whole raw fruits or veg (ie an apple and
a carrot; 2 oranges )
and a 300 cal meal of anything you like.
If you need more than that (ie you are
very tall/large build/etc) you can
increase it to 5 meals.
You can also mix in a scoop of whey powder
with the water

Oo icic. I'm sure you'll get back to
where you were ^_^. Maybe i'll ask my
mudder about weight watchers, I don't
think i'd mind doing that! My problem was
I ate waaaay too much fast food. I would
be at classes most of the day, so on my
breaks in between classes I would just go
to lunch with friends, everyday. I was
bad.
hopefully someday I can post a before and
after picture, woot woot!. Oh and i'm
thinking we all could do with some more
aly and finn pics (lol aly and finn should
be paired up like chu and oni are, it's
just adorable!)

Stress has been my weight loss program-lol
bad way but so far i've lost ablout
30-35lbs since july/august. I start a
spinning (stationary bike with excercises)
class on friday too. They offer them at
work for cheap.
Back to the original question. I think
instead of takng the money, ask your mom
to take you shopping once you hit your
goal weight. That way you have
something to look forward to and time with
your mom.
*edited because my keyboard was acting
screwy lol

"stress has been my weight loss program"
blaze your lucky!! It's the exact
opposite with me! I gained all the weight
from school and work (it didn't help that
the work that was stressing me out was a
pizza place that gave me free food )
but yeah, the money from my mom would be
for a new wardrobe.
I'll definately try to lose weight, I
don't want to worry my mudder.
Lol and kia, I had never heard sugars
referred to that way either until I took
physiology, and the teacher used the term
to describe their chemical formula's (in
concern with how they are arranged). The
artificial sweetners are phenylalanine
isn't it? I read on the labels that it
says it has been shown to cause cancer in
lab animals? Lol, guess soda diet or not
is bad
