the Abortion Pill

This is one of the options my ob gave me.
Sounds nasty, doesn't it? It's a
combination of 2 pills that you take
withing a couple of days of eachother and
they cause contractions and expel all the
tissue and embryo. Has anyone ever taken
them?
I never heard about it until my doc told
me. My first response was no, i'll stick
with natural or d&c. I went to
another doctor and he said he really
didn't recommend d&c. He told me it
was better to miscarry naturally or if I
wanted I could take the two pills.
I'm just scared. I have no signs of
bleeding or spotting and i'm getting
extremely impatient and sad. I just want
it to be over with. Some pro's with the
pill is that you can *time* when you want
to miscarry. If I take the first pill
today and take the second tomorrow or the
next day(you need to wait that long after
the first pill), within 6-8 hours of
taking the second pill, the embryo will
pass and the most painful cramps will be
done and over with.
It just sucks with waiting for the natural
miscarriage because I don't know when it's
going to happen. With the pill..I can
take it over a weekend and I can just lay
in bed all day and rest and cry because I
know exactly when it's going to happen.
I'll be prepared. Know what I mean? And
I won't have to miss school..As it is my
first week and it's important i'm there.
Am I being selfish? Should I just be
patient or should I take the pill?
What are your opinions/past experiences if
any?

I don't think you're being selfish at all.
You need to deal with this however you
feel will be the easiest.
I went with the d&c. I found out the
baby had already been dead for 5 weeks and
hadn't expelled itself, how much longer
would I have to wait for it to happen
naturally? I just couldn't sit around
waiting for it to happen. I had the
d&c and had very little bleeding
immediately after and no bleeding after a
few hours and I never had any cramping.
I got my period exactly 28 days later. Of
course I was still filled with emotional
pain but at least I didn't have to deal
with the physical pain.
Did your doctor say why he didn't
recommend a d&c?
My thoughts are with you, I know how
painful this is for you. I wish the best
with whatever you choose and with time
things will get easier. I'm so sorry for
your loss.

I read the title and almost locked this.
However, I am waiting for mine to start
naturally.

He just told me how it wasn't the best
idea because the baby was not even 7 weeks
old. He said he would have recommened it
if the baby was atleast 8 weeks and
because my baby was only 6w5d it was
only"natural" for my body to expel the
embryo on it's own. But the baby's been
dead for almost a month (dec 20/06-ish
) so I don't know
how much longer I can wait.
He also told me some risks with d&c's.
Like they could rupture something and
blah blah blah. He also told me that
someone women bleed between for up to 6-8
weeks after a d&c. and then with the
pill..Most women bleed between 10 and 14
days.
But the pills are 95% effective, so
there's that smal 5% chance i'll need a
d&c after the pills anyway.
Ugh I dunno. I don't want to think
anymore.

My view is doctors canbe and have been
wrong.
If everything isn't expelled naturally
within about 4 weeks - it is worth having
another scan done to make sure the first
diagnosis was correct.

I've had 3 ultrasounds within 2 weeks and
all measured the baby at 6weeks 5 days, no
heartbeat, and 7mm. My hcg levels have
dropped from 21,000 on dec 29 to 10, 000
on jan 8. Believe me, I made sure that
the doctors were sure.

did I miss something??
I had a totally natural miscarriage the
first time and a d&c the second time.
I was 3 months along the 2nd time and was
bleeding huge clots and they just wanted
to make sure everything was out.
I really don;t know what to tell you. I
would've said get a d&c but as your
doc advised against this i'm not sure.

guess you did.
I thought I was pregnant and kinda
was/is...
But it's a blighted ovum, so I just get to
wait for everything to expel naturally
now.

given my weight not 100% but 99%.
They've always struggled to do u/s with me
because of my weight and with my uterus it
also makes transvaginal scans not as clear
as they could be.
So when I went to the gyn doc at the
hospital she had me go for a t/v scan and
there appeared to be an empty sac in
utero. It's the second time this has
happened to me now.
However, it is sometimes possible to see
the sac before the baby in very early
pregnancy.
I have almost nil hcg levels they were at
31 last week. Explains why I had a couple
of very faint hpt.
*sigh*
so, i'm awaiting the natural expulsion
under strict orders that if I have any
signs of infection (fever, pain, nausea,
vomitting, etc) to go directly to er and
tell them I have a probable blighted
ovum.
If it doesn't happen naturally within 4
weeks then she'll send me for a re-scan.
Last time things started about 7 weeks
(iirc - I kinda put it out of my mind
because when it's a blighted ovum there
isn't really a baby to lose becaue it
never formed to begin with.)

*sigh* we love you .Kia you know you can
always talk to us, love.
To the original poster: from what I know
about abortions (which isn't much, mind)
if you take the medical route, there's a
chance not all of the "bits" will come
out, which could lead to infection and a
possible d&c anyway. If I had to
choose one, I would go with the d&c
and request to be put to sleep.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I
can't begin to imagine.
How dumb, .I'm crying now.

This is an old post &she wasn't going
to take the pill to abort her child, it
was an option given to her after having a
nasty miscarriage that she had lots of
problems with ¬ all the tissue in
her uterus expelled itself.

weird... It's going to look like you're
responding to something that's not here
but I saw it too! She must have realized
nadia wasn't talking about abortion.

The doctors ended up giving it to me
anyways when I was in the hospital. The
contractions were *sooooooo* painful. I
would never, ever suggest it to anyone
whose about miscarry. Thank god for
.Demerol-gravol shots. I wish I opted for
the d&c a lot earlier. I feel so much
better now. My spotting stopped
officially (i hope) and I hope my cycle
gets back to normal soon.

I guess i'm okay. I think about it a lot.
I miss being pregnant. But i'll have
another chance when i'm ready right? I
mean..I want a baby sooo bad right now but
I know I can't have one. I'll be going on
the pill as soon as I get my period.(the
pill thing didn't work for me but i'm
willing to try again, i'm more determined
now) but anyway, it sucks but I realize this
just isn't my time to be a mommy.
Plus- I think me and my boyfriend are on
the verge of break up right now. We got
into the biggest fight and he ended up
punching a hole in the door
why do guys do that? They think it's so
macho. Now he has to replace the damn
thing.
For christmas I had gotten my bf dog tags
with engravings on them. On the one, it
said my bf's name and on the other it
said, "merry christmas---we love you, from
nadia and baby" my boyfriend stopped
wearing them after I lost the baby cuz it
hurt him too much, so tonight I took them
and i'm wearing them. A little keepsake.
Makes me feel better.
Thank you for asking

child so I won't pretend to know what
you're going through, but .I'm here if you
need someone to listen.

dilation and cutterage.
They dilate the cervix to insert some
small instruments and then they cut/scrape
out the lining of the uterus.
