Knee pain
Posted: 01-11-07 10:07am

Hello; for the past few weeks I have been experiencing a pain in my knee, it is just to the outside of my left knee cap. It is a
very sharp pain, like hitting a raw nerve, or like an electrical shock.
It happens totally at random. It can happen when I am walking,
sitting, sleeping, etc. When the pain is not occurring, my knee feels
completely normal. When it happens, it usually happens every few
seconds or minutes, then stops for several hours. There seem to be different levels of the pain, when most intense it will instantly give me a headache like no other I have experienced. I feel completely exhausted after it occurs. I am not aware of any injury or unusual stress to that area. The only thing I can recall is the day it started I had crawled on my desktop to move a phone wire and at the time it did not hurt but within a few hours I experienced my first episode which I describe as being shocked.

I have had an MRI and the results showed a little arthritis - but the information I read on arthritis does not seem to match what I am feeling.

Please help - I don't know what to do next.

Tami Allen

According to your symptoms (sudden sharp pain in the knee), you'll need a physical examination by an orthopedist to diagnose the reason for the condition. S/he will probably request further imagining methods as well. If an MRI cannot establish a correct diagnosis, arthroscopy can be indicated.
