I went to the Dr. Today for my 40 week check up......My due date is tomorrow (january12.)........The doc said that I was 4cm dilated and 80% effaced.........He said I could go at any time........But I was talking to my mom and my cousin and they were saying usually they just send you to the hospital if your dilated that much......He said he was going to try stripping the membranes to help me go into labor......He did that like 2 hours ago.......So does any one have any idea whne I will go into labor??? And shouldnt he have sent me to the hospital???

Technically you are in labour but it has been known for people to go for days being dilated and not give birth go to the hospital when you are ready to perhaps if you start feeling contractions or are worried because you haven't been sent. Go and just let them check you out for your own piece of mind maybe.

Stripping the membranes can help, but isn't a sure-fire method of starting labor. If your body is not ready, nothing will happen. We can't tell you when you'll go into labor, obviously. Just that eventually you will.

I'm sure your doctor would have sent you had he thought it was necessary. If stripping your membranes starts labor, then you will be going to the hospital, right? And if you don't go into labor, you're obviously not ready to give birth yet. So what would be the point of going to the hospital. Do you see my point?

You're in your last days. Just relax and try to take things as they come.

When I was 37 weeks with my 2nd daughter they told me I was 4cm dilated and sent me to the hospital but once I got there they told me if I did not start to have contraction they would send me home so I went in the bathroom and had sex with my husband at the time and 2 hours later I was in full blown labor

If you show up at the hospital, they'll probably just send you right back home again. Without contractions or your water broken, they won't do squat without your doctor's instruction. Trust him over your mother and cousin, who .I'm sure have not attended medical school.
