Ganglion Cyst - Hard Vs. Soft Posted: 08-29-06 02:41am
I have been told that ganglion cysts are
soft and rubbery. I have what has been
diagnosed as a ganglion cyst on my left
wrist, but it is neither hard nor rubbery.
It feels like an extension of the bone.
I have had xrays and was told that they
showed nothing abnormal. Still, it
concerns me that the lump is very smooth
and hard rather than rubbery. Is this
possible in ganglions?

My ganglians have always protruded so you
can see the lump visibly pushing against
the skin but you can have small ones that
are quite flat against the bone that do
ache a lot so it actually feels like bone
pain. I have one at present that is
quite solid that is sitting on a tendon
and feels like a bone itself. I think
they harden over time. Some just burst
on their own but others rise and fall when
they feel like it. It all depends on
what triggers your ganglian. Hope this
helps a bit.

Glucosamine and condroitin
do not affect the bones of the body

Just because they are "natural" it does
not mean that they will not have side
effects and they may interact with other
medication in ways that cannot be
predicted!
After spraining my wrist a month ago, my
doctor says I'm still feeling pain because
I've deleloped a ganglion cyst. Before
they start cutting or sticking needles
into me, I'm trying to research the
condition.
I saw the above old post, and I'm
wondering if taking glucosamine would
encourage a cyst since it's drawing more
fluid to the joint area? I take
glucosamine and fish oil at least twice a
day in an attempt to help a knee that
sometimes makes crunching sounds. Should I
stop taking glucosamine to see if that
helps my wrist heal?

Hello all-
Ganglions can be soft, or hard or big or
small. Mine looked like a piece of bone as
well. Felt like it too. It came and went
for years, but finally it had to go. There
is no 'magic' cure to it. Even the surgery
is not 100% guaranteed but it's better
odds than doing nothing. Mine actually
grew into the bone and starting eating at
it. The MRI showed 3 pretty close
together. They only removed 1 (the one in
the bone). So far, so good. It's been 1
year and it has not returned.
Hope this helps.

Pain in my right wrist Posted: 03-16-08 22:51pm
I had a ganglion cyst on both of my wrists
at one point. Once I had them drained,
they were fine for a couple years. Now the
one in my right wrist is back. I am
hurting a lot. I am trying to get back
into weight training, but whenever I do
something that puts the slightest pressure
on my wrist, I feel like my wrist is about
to snap. The bad thing is the cyst isn't
fully developed yet and it is still in the
wrist, so I don't know if the doctor can
drain it again. Has anybody had one
drained that is still in the wrist and has
not "bubbled" up yet?

Ganglion on shoulder Posted: 05-05-08 15:52pm
I have a small lump on the top of my
shoulder, just behind the pointy should
bone (how's that for medical
terminology!). Basically it is directly
underneath my bra strap. But as far as I
can tell there is no tendon in this area -
but the doctor told me that it was a
ganglion. I also have a dull ache in my
arm pit area - perhaps this is a ganglion
as well (internal ganglion)? Has anyone
else had any symptoms like this in the
shoulder area?
