I have always had a strange "poking"
sensation when I get around sharp objects,
corners, etc. It causes pressure in my
eyes and feels like the object is going to
poke my eyes. It has become so severe as
of late that I cannot even use scissors or
cut food for my kids with a knife. My son,
who is 7, complains of the same condition
(although I have never mentioned it to
him). He also has OCD and Tourettes.
Closing my eyes tightly and applying
pressure gives temporary relief. But as
soon as I resume the activity, it returns
as well. Any ideas?
According to the symptoms you report (fear
of sharp objects and avoiding them) you
may be suffering from some kind of phobia
or abnormal fear. Phobias drive people to
act in ways that will avoid stressful
situations. Kids learn behaviors from
their parents. That’s probably why your
son exhibits the same or similar symptoms
as yours. You can consult a mental health
doctor specialist who treats neurotic
disorders (phobias, OCD, anxiety,
hysterias…) for more information,
diagnosis, and treatment options.
