Passing Out While Drawing Blood Posted: 01-14-07 00:55am
Hi,
first time posting, not sure if this is
the right format, but ill give it a go
anyways. I was at the blood lab today
for a blood test for my new job and blood
work was needed. I have very small veins
so it was hard for her to find one to use
(took her a few pokes to get a vein).
Once she finally found the vien I got very
light headed and passed out. I have
never been afraid of any needles or blood.
This was my second time getting blood
work and I never passed out the first
time. I was woundering if anyone knows
why this would happen to me?
Thanks

There could be many factors in why you may
have passed out. Heat, not eating, not
enough fluids, or just having to be poked
a few times before hitting the vein. I
had passed out when getting an iv when the
nurse missed 4 times and that is because I
started to panic after the second time
that she missed and I started
hyperventalating (sp?) it normally is not
something to be concerned about. Did you
ask them why while you were in there?
Anyways I hope your ok now
