Is there anything u can give a 3 week old
for a cold other then the saline nose
drops? I feel so bad , cuz u can her it
when she breathes in her nose its
congested and shes coughing and sneezing,
just not sure if they can have any type of
cold meds that little, the clinic is
closed here on base so I cant ask them.
So dunno if any of you had a sick lil one
so early.
I thought breastfed babies dont get sick
as often, maybe this will be the only time
she gets sick, everyone in the house has a
cold, and all snotty , coughing and
sneezing , joy lol .I just feel bad for
her because she cant blow her nose or
anything to help.
I havea humidifier. Not sure if that
will help.

I don't know about meds but have you tried
using a bulb syringe to get the snot out?
Also taking her into the bathroom and
letting the shower get really hot can help
relieve some of the congestion with the
steam. They are oldies but goodies.

They tell you not to give them any meds
that little, unless by a doc. The things
that the other poster said do work
wonders, also do not use any of that vapor
rub or any of that. They say that it is
bad for babies. My doctor had me suction
there nose before every feed. Good luck.
I hope that your baby is feeling better
soon. If you are really worried you can
always take the baby to the hospital to be
checked. (rsv) is in season ..

Don't risk it, a 3 week old can die from
.R.S.V!!
Call her Dr....

Ya im wondering if the dr will be open
tomorow , its on military base and
tomorows a holiday, I have to ask hubby, I
know rsv, thats what im afraido f but she
isnt preemie but I know its the season
for it.She isnt as bad as she was last
night and this morning but still is sick.
Im gonna plug the humidifier in tonight, I
got a snot sucker, but th eone I can find
doesnt work as good as the others I have
somewhere in this house, I think I got 3
of the suckers lol. I think mostly she is
congested and it draining is making her
cough and sneezing too. The main thing is
the congestion and it makes me feel bad
cuz u can hear it in her nose when she
breathes. I always freak out and wake up
to look at her lol. Shes been awake alot
of today though but I will see how she is
overnight, then hubby might know if the
clinic is open tomorow, I dont want to
have to go to the german hospital, they
dotn know american medications etc. So
its like if she goes there they give her
stuff the clinic will tell u something
different , iw ent through that at her 2
week checkup, they redid the heal prick
and gave her the shot of vitamin k even
though they administered it orally at the
hospital. So id rather stick with the
clinic, hopefully they are open cuz they
have sick call where u can walk in during
a certain time to be seen. Stupid
holidays.

They were both older than your daughter
when they got sick. And they got sick!
don't play around with it, hon. Get her
checked out asap.

Rsv is serious. If it turns out she does
have it, waiting will only make her worse.
And if you take her in and she has
something minor, what's the harm?
Don't wait. For her sake, please get her
to a doctor. It's not about convenience.
It's about her health.

what do u mean that sick?
If she was really sick I wouldnt wait, it
seems like a cold and I asked my mom to
and she said the same thing . I plan on
taking her tomorow to be sure if they are
open, she isnt getting worse, it doesnt
seem so bad as it was , the congestion in
her nose hasnt been bad at all all day
today. Everyone in my house has a cold
right now. Hubbys the worst.
But she has no fever, she is sleeping and
eating ok and normal diaper changes

saline does not do much for a snot
infested nose. What you need to do is
lay your baby on her side put 5ml of
sterlized water in one nostril with those
nasal pumps and squeeze the pump until all
the water comes out of the other nostril
along with the mucus and you must repeat
this on the other side. This is what I
had to do at the hospital and t home for
weeks when my son had pneumonia. I must
warn you she will scream and you must hold
her head and hands still.

Elevating one end of her bed will help a
bit too at night.

Amelia was showing signs of getting a cold
one day and the next morning she was not
worse but I made a dr's appt for her for
that afternoon and by the time we got
there she was 5 times worse. I wouldn't
wait for the clinic to open...Take her to
the hospital.....3 wk old baby is nothing
to take a guess and see if it gets worse.
If you are worried enough about your baby
take her to the er.....They should treat
her right away being so small.....Amelia
is almost 6 months old and she got
.R.S.V....And .Oni was older.....Dont'
play around with your daughter's
health....
There isn't anything that you can give
your baby...The decongestiants in meds can
kill your baby......So don't give her
anything unless prescribed by the Dr.

Rotavirus is highly contagious
rotavirus can cause high fever, multiple
episodes of vomiting and diarrhea, and can
quickly lead to dehydration (loss of body
fluids).
• rotavirus can be mild, moderate, or
severe—it can be difficult to predict
which infected children will have severe
cases.
• a severe case of rotavirus could send
your child to the emergency room or your
child may be hospitalized.
• rotavirus infections occur mostly
during the winter, but they may happen at
any time of the year.
• rotavirus is usually spread through
contaminated hands or objects, and can
remain on surfaces for a long time.
• soaps can't kill rotavirus, and most
disinfectants don't work.
Symptoms of rotavirus
if your baby gets sick with rotavirus,
symptoms may come on suddenly and usually
begin with a fever, vomiting, and an upset
stomach, followed by watery diarrhea that
can last from 3 to 9 days.
Effect of rotavirus
there is no reliable way to predict which
babies will have serious cases, but we do
know that every year in the united states,
rotavirus is estimated to be responsible
for up to 70,000 hospitalizations and
approximately 250,000 emergency room
visits among children younger than 5 years
of age.
Now you can do more to help protect your
baby
rotateq is a vaccine to help prevent
rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants. It
was shown to help protect infants against
the most common types of rotavirus.
Rotateq does not protect against diarrhea
and vomiting that are caused by something
other than rotavirus and it may not fully
protect all children who get the
vaccine.
Rotateq may not fully protect all children
that get the vaccine, and if your child
already has the virus it will not help
them.
