Too Much Sleep?
Posted: 01-14-07 20:39pm

Finn has literally been asleep all weekend! I'm wondering if I should be concerned. He doesn't have a fever and he's his usual smiley self when he is awake but he hasn't slept this much since he was a week old.

He woke up at 6, ate and went back to sleep, up again at 9 to eat, back to sleep at 10:30, up at 2:30 to eat, back to sleep at 3:30, up at 6:30 to eat, I wanted to keep him up until his bedtime which is 9:30 but he couldn't keep his eyes open and fell back to sleep at 8. It was pretty much the same yesterday, but he had a bit more awake time.

Do babies sleep more during a growth spurt?

Yes ma'am they do. All the way up til they're about 2 years old.. Jacob did it a lot when he was a baby, and .Caty does it now too. Usually I cant get her to sleep for nothing, but when shes having a growth spurt she'll sleep like a rock all day.

Oni used to sleep *a lot*...But she's cutting her two top teeth Shocked and we're not having a good weekend...At all....

She's effin miserable and has literally been cutting her gums with ehr bottom teeth she's grinding so hard. I"ve been giving her her frozen rings and she's loooves them...And at night I give her some orajel. That .God for orajel.

I don't care how many people knock it...I love it!! It's saved my sanity a *couple* times!!!! I've tried the tablets, i've tried *everything*!!!!!! ::bows down to the orajel::!!!!

Let da bebe sleep!!!! Oni took a 30 min nap...All day...Yea....

How old is finn? It's not uncommon for newborns and infants to get 20 hours of sleep in a day sometimes.

its either a growth sprut or hes getting sick...Watch out for signs of a cold and what not....I thought my son was the greatest baby sleeping and eating the same way but little did I know he was sick....I dont wanna make you paranoid but you need to take a close look and be alert...

Thanks everyone. I'll keep an eye on him.

He had me up at 4am, which is not like him. I'm exhausted!

Lauren, he's 10 weeks. He'd been getting about 14 hours of sleep a day and having long periods of awake time, then all of the sudden he's sleeping non-stop.

I miss our old routine!

Chu went through the same thing around the same time. I'm pretty sure it's normal. Then he went through another period where he stayed awake almost all day. Now he sleeps 12 hours at night and takes 2 two hour naps during the day. He's really only awake 8 hours a day now but not all at once. They go through phases I think.

I wish trey slept like that! Shocked he's never liked sleeping. Confused

My nephew is 2 1/2 and sleeps all the time. He's the laziest little thing-lol. He'll sleep from 7.30pm-10am and then go down for a nap from 12-3. It ridiculous! He's always been like that. I guess it's a normal thing-lol finn's young still, i'm sure it'll adjust soon (hopefully- Laughing )

Yeah like I said .Caty does it so did .Jacob... Now, on a normal day, .Caty will be up at about 9 am til 12, then again most of the afternoon with a short 20 minute nap here and there, then she'll have her lat bottle about 10:30, goes to sleep about 11:30 and *usually* sleeps til 9.. This morning she woke up about 6 for a bottle. Unusual, but nothing to worry about. Jacob on the other hand, sleeps from about 11 pm til 9 and has a short nap for about an hour at or around 3. He used to sleep for about 2 hours in the afternoon but not anymore.
