Cholestid & Niacin: Can They Cause Increase In Triglycer Posted: 01-15-07 19:28pm
I was on lipitor for pas 4-5 years (
10mg). My overall cholestrol was in 210
range with lipitor and I used to smoke
around half-a-pack a day.
My new internist noticed ast & alk
phospatase levels high and after doing all
the tests, ct scans, ultrasounds etc for
gall stones etc. Decided it might be
lipitor causing the elevated levels and
took me off lipitor.
Unfortunately a week later I had a heart
attack and had a stent placed in rca.
Anyway a follow-up he put me on
cholestipol and niaspan right now.
I quit smoking, have been eating healthy,
doing exercise and actually feeling lot
better, no shortness of breath etc.
I just got my lipid results back on a
fasting specimen.
Cholesterol : 278
hdl : 35
chol/hdl 7.9
triglycerides : 438
i never had triglycerides that high.
They did not do ldl calculation, since
triglycerides were > 400.
Well I want to get some other perspective
on this before I meet my internal medicine
specialist and my cardialogist.
Any suggestions. Other medications I am
on ( metoprolol, plavix, lisinopril, baby
aspirin) I don't have high blood
pressure, neither am I diabetic.
What medications & other means can I
pursue to manage my lipids?
