Hair Pulling
Posted: 01-16-07 14:33pm

Hi guys!

I've been pulling on and off for the last few years, but untill now I had (a little) control of myself.

I have come to the point that the situation is copletely out of controll. My wife is embarrassed to be seen with me in public.

Every day I tell myslf enough is enough, i'm stopping!! But a couple of minutes pass by and there I am pulling like freak.

Please give some words of advice or incouragment, I neeeeed it desperatly!

Thanks

You probably have trichotillomania. It's a condition in which you pull out your hair. I've had this disorder or condition for about 9 years now. My fiance has a problem with my hair pulling, but its something i can't control. hopefully your wife will understand that you have a problem and try to help....But trust me, its not easy.

I have had Trich for 12 years. i didn't know anything about it till 2 years ago. My husband is the only person that knows. My hair is almost 50% gone and i have managed to let everyone believe that my hair has been falling out. No i suffer from adult add and I get insomnia that is when I pull the most. 2 things that have helped me go pull free for about 2 months ( the longest I have been pull free pulling less the 20 hairs a day) Your wife needs to understand that this is a condition that is really out of your control. Try Shaving your head bald keeping your hair from getting oily and trying to keep your hands busy. I have started beading and doing odd jobs for friends using my hands. That really helps and get something to help you sleep. That really is a big part of it.. you would be surprised at how many handfuls of hair you can pull out of your own head in an 8 hour time. I promise you this as a young 20 something female nothing is more important then looks. That is untill you suffer from something like this. Talk to her about it look it up and research it. I promise she will be angry but will understand and if she doesn't oh well she can deal with it or move on. I am sorry she is not supportive. Praying she will come around!

when you pull your hair, does the hair come out very easily? or do you yank it really hard for it to come out?

Try and focus on soing something with your hands or staying around people that won't let you do it. My husband pulls my hands away from my head and I started making jewelry that really helped. Hope something helps if you need to talk i am here.

hey people i have suffered through trich for about 8 years and know what you are going through but i support you. i suggest going to an O.C.D. therapist, but i know what its like going through this.

first of all get someone you feel comfortable with and talk to them every day about your day. have your wife hide the tweasers(TRUST ME!) eat healthy and stay away from energy drinks. play videogames that requires two hands, of do somethiung creative

as for your wife tell her that its uncontrollable until you learn to controll it which is pretty much like tryting to teach an old dog new tricks, hard but doable
